I have an appointment with my dealership next Saturday to have the service manager inspect this rust line on the window pillar post. I will post the results in this thread, but I expect them to be pretty resistant.

It's on the outside, why would a tinter be touching the exterior? Even if that happened, I can't imagine everyone here had a dumb tint person.
I think it's a design flaw, where the weather strip should have either been completely water tight, or allowed water to channel through. From looking at my own, there is a tiny gap that allows water to sit (fine for the rubber portion of the weather seal, but bad for the metal window splitter thing). I'll be bringing mine to the dealer as well with this thread printed out.

I feel sorry for you guys who are having to drive your car regularly in winter weather. I hate to see salt all over any of my vehicles. I remember well the toll salt took on my cars when I used to live farther north. Since you can't do much about the weather, I'd try cleaning this spot regularly with some detail spray to remove salt accumulation. A little spray wax after cleaning might also help add some additional protection to this area.

I assumed at first this was just a snow area issue due to the salt.
But, I got intrigued and decided to go look at my car. IT HAS RUST IN THESE AREAS! This is a So Cal car, just under a year old, and has probably seen rain less than a half dozen times in its life. Never been in snow at all. So we can rule out this issue coming from road salt. I do drive along the ocean daily, so there's some salt in the air. My guess from the photos I'll post below is that the hard rubber seal has a little bit of motion as the car moves and any grit that gets in that spot then causes the paint to rub through. I'm concerned about this because as Rust-O-Leum says, rust never sleeps. Driver's side as it looked without touching it. Driver's side after I pushed the rubber seal down a bit. Driver's side after I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. Definitely a line of rust! I'm surprised you are having the same problem down in So Cal. This rust problem is really surprising and not just a result of the winter road salt getting stuck in that area...
It looks like we will just have to routinely clean that area to ensure salt and moisture isn't trapped there. Hope this isn't going to be a big issue where the rust expands so that it becomes quite unsightly. Any idea how much it would cost to replace the entire external metal pillar on the window? |

Appreciate your feedback, this is the first I have heard about dealerships addressing this problem. I am seeing my dealership this Saturday and hopefully will get the same outcome. |

I didn't need to hassle them at all. Amazing dealership.
Every little problem ive had, has been addressed with out question. They even replaced my DI pump after I installed the FBM kit. Any rust on these cars should be covered at any rate, I paid a little extra for their 6 year rust warranty. If it rusts, they fix.

Do you know if there were any issues with replacing these metal bars, or was it simple enough? Thanks again for your feedback so far. |

I would 100% argue the trim being part of the body, your dealer should have no issues replacing them.
