IF YOURE STILL HAVING RATTLING BUZZING ISSUES, CHECK YOUR TRUNK LID

The inner structural member touches up against the outside shell. This can cause buzzing with anything other than a stock exhaust. My fix was using thick double sided 3M foam tape pieces every 2-3 inches.

This post just save a day of my time.
I almost got myself re-working on the lowered springs that I just put on my BRZ, because when the noise occurs almost at that time when I put the lowered springs on.
Really appreciated.

Spent several hours disassembling the car this weekend, put grease all over that back deck, and viola! The problem seems to be fixed! Thank you so much for this write up - my mornings will be much less stressful now.

Diassemble? You realize you can do the fix from inside the trunk without removing anything, right? Unless you tried that and it didn't work.

I ended up taking out pretty much everything from the front seats back. There are a number of welds that are out of reach if you don't remove the deck itself, and I didn't want to deal with the noise anymore. In the end, it was worth it though.

I know how you feel. Mine stopped from just spraying from the trunk, so I'll consider myself lucky. That being said, I took off the door panel this weekend to silence the vibration from the door switches/subwoofer.

Noise gone

So, took FRS in for 15K service... asked them to check out the "rattle" noise from trunk area -- especially bad when rear seat back is down... going over speed bumps or bumpy roads. Thought this was somehow related to all the posts about the rear deck metal.

They found the noise to be in the rear hatch latch. They made some adjustments... and voila... the noise is gone.

I guess i am not fully understanding how wd-40 or grease can provide cushioning to the panels to keep them from rattling against one another....

Because they aren't "rattling" against each other. They are already in contact and they are essentially squeaking at the welded interface. lubricating the interface fixes the noise.

Think of it like oiling a squeaky hinge on a door.

This JUST STARTED in my car yesterday, and I hadn't even thought to look for a thread on it before I just happened to see it here today. I love this board.
