Stock Sat antenna on BRZ w. aftermarket HU?
I finally pulled the trigger and got a pioneer AVIC-8100NEX, with XM radio/antenna.
But I really want to use the stock BRZ sat antenna because it's on the roof. Unfortunately the BRZ sat antenna connection at the radio has a square housing, and won't fit in the round housing on the satellite radio. Anyone know of either 1) an adapter to use?, or 2) some other way to make this work? I'm getting very spotty XM reception with the antenna mounted on the plate near the radio (where the gps antenna was). Ideas? Thanks, Steve |

Brz/ Sat antenna
Steve, I purchased a 2015 Frs, as the frs does not come with sat radio, I had it installed and got ripped off from the stealership to the tune of 650.00 My problem is I did not like the small xm antenna they installed at the back of the lower edge of the rear glass. I did not know that the frs factory shark fin antenna does not have the xm antenna in it as the Brz does. So I purchased the Thunderstorm red Brz sharkfin unit. I am trying to figure out If I can cut or un solder my xm antenna and come up with a proper way to connect it to the Brz unit without replacing the entire Brz antenna cable to the frs. The guy who knows this stuff inside and out is David. he goes by David at ae64.com I lost touch with him about 2 months ago. So I am at an impass I purchased the Factory antenna and the 1st connector lead. Their are 2 more Cables that I have to have. But if I facilitate that, I will be in the exact situation as you. I will then need the proper adapter like you do to go from the end of now brz antenna cables to the sat xm receiver to the radio. So maybe between the two of us we can put this together. Best regards Steve

I ended up buying this, which is a cable that interfaces between the stock sat antenna cable and aftermarket sat radio. It isn't cheap, and cost almost $60. Also note that the connector is very very tight. I almost thought it was the wrong connector at first.
sfa12f Note that it's the F Version, NOT the M. It worked fine, and has better reception (although not perfect) than the sat antenna that came with the sat receiver. |
