Dealer allocation vs built-to-order?

Been lurking for a while, thanks for being the best source of info on the release (and some laughs).

Does anybody know how the dealer allocation is working going forward, vs built to order? e.g. will dealers only be receiving customers orders, or will they also receive their own dealer stock for sale.

Also, will dealers be restricted to a maximum number of cars/orders delivered in each build/shipment? i.e. will popular dealers be penalised for getting more orders?

I know this sounds absurd, but just trying to figure out whether there's any benefit in looking outside urban Sydney for a dealer.

I was under the impression that each dealer is allocated XX amount (aswell as ordered stock). The number they get is determined by their sales records etc. This was how my dealer was able to allocate a specific car ( GT in silver ) to me. This was the colour they suggested to me if I wanted in Aug?

This is how it was when I worked for Ford many years ago

From what I know each dealer gets 2 cars per month (some metropolitan dealers get 3 and some regional dealers might get 1). Since Toyota has already specified models (50% GT, 50% GTS) and transmission (50% auto, 50% manual) I would presume that each dealer gets one specific type of car every 2 months. With the GTS Manual being so popular you can expect to wait some time. Don't think colour is an issue though.

PS. This is not officially how the allocate cars - but it seems to be the logical way to do it if you've got these four models to sell.

I did read that, but word in the media is Australia is only allocated 250 cars a month, and there's over 400 Toyota dealers in Australia.....

I'll ask at Toyota here on Friday when I visit, but I wouldn't expect them to know/say too much.

What happens if in the next few weeks delivery dates get pushed back as far as middle of next year, would it then maybe make sense to wait for a mkII version to come out at (possibly) that time?

They have already given the number of vehicles being sold for the next 3 years, So I would think that a mkII would be after them?

Ahh ok, though it still might include refreshed models in that number...dont know if any car goes 3 years without some sort of update? They'd probably try keep mum about it for as long as possible though.

Cheers

You could very much be right

Going off some of the delivered cars here in Aus, 2-3yrs is normal before a revamp, unless the manufacturer has a decent drop in sales of which they bring in a MKII etc to add some 'incentive' to upgrade.
