Spare key needed.

I only got one with the car. Dealer wants $300 and $55 to program. I found one on Ebay for $165, but I'm leary because I'm not convinced it will work on a '15 Limited. I read here that it may be possible to program them yourself. Any info would be appreciated.

BTW, I searched the archives first but didn't find anything helpful.

All sorts of threads on here on the subject but the names can make them hard to search for.
There are a few options that people will mention but I have never seen one that was actually confirmed to work (people suck at follow up sometimes).
I do know there was one thread where a guy chased cheaper options and ended up paying more in total than if he had just gone to the dealer in the first place.
I really don't think that there is a way to have them programed other than by the dealer but maybe somebody else can chime in.

Did they tell you there was only one key before they sold you the car? If not then the normal expectation would be to have two keys and you may be able to get them to provide one if you raise a firm but polite complaint. If they told you then I would just pay up and get the real thing.

I'm 100% with Tcoat. If you bought it from dealership, definitely don't stop complaining til you get it. if you bought it privately, you are shit out of luck

+1 on what @Tcoat and the other guy said.

Most Keys contain three bits

The actual key you put in lock (even the keyless entry fobs have an emergency key), generally can get cut at most locksmiths.

The active RF bit that opens/locks doors, sometimes this can be reprogrammed by end user

The passive RF ID tag that is the bit that the car interrogates to get a code sequence to enable the car to be started. This bit in almost all cases requires a dealer or locksmith to re-code into the Imobilser or authentication control unit in car.

Try a locksmith sometimes they have the keys/remotes and can do the full re-code, they may be slightly cheaper than dealer.

Then just pay the dealer.

It's not worth the hassle jumping through hoops trying to get it to work via DIY, only to find out it won't and have to end up paying the dealership anyways on top of whatever you paid for to try DIY and your time invested.
