A regular Avalon

I do a daily distance of 40 miles one-way with a mix of freeways and canyons. So I've come across more than a few lets-see-what-you-got scenarios.

However, I was not prepared for a regular late model Toyota Avalon to take off like a banshee like I was still stopped at the lights. And he/she did it again at the next set of lights including keeping a good pace through the canyons.

I just have to look it up; 268hp. Still, did Grandma know how potent her car is? Am I missing something? What's the world coming to ....

I had one as a rental last year and it was eye-opening. You have to get pretty deep in the throttle before it does anything, but I remember being surprised / impressed / annoyed (seriously, what Avalon driver needs this power?).

I don't like Camrys at all, but I have a certain fondness for the Japanese Buickness of the Avalon.

Dude, V6 > 4 banger.
And also she's a better driver than you. Well... She may have that thing some race car drivers have. No fear.

Your worred about your car and others people's cars, she doesn't. Your worried about redlining your car, she doesn't.

I had a similar experience in my rental. I spun the tires while getting onto the freeway. Color me impressed.

It's the Lexus for the owner who doesn't want a Lexus. If you're competing in that upscale sedan market, power is a requirement.

Hey, that's her! She had her arm hanging out the window and yelling "C'mon sonny, catch up". I think she may have her cat in the car as well.
