WINDOW WONT GO UP!
So today as i was on my way to college, i noticed that my passenger side window wouldn't roll down due to freezing temperatures (live in canada) after i managed to get the window unfrozen, i realized i can only roll the window down not up. any suggestions? also the driver side switch for the passenger window doesn't work. doesn't allow me to roll the window up or down, but the passenger side switch can only roll it down. Any suggestions?

There's a TSB on the windows for freezing. Contact a dealership. Are you still w/in the warranty period? If so, the fix is on them.

One possibility is you have something "off the track" now inside the door. I haven't looked at the schematics for the mechanism but did have this happen with a GM vehicle once. Every time it rained the window would roll down, but not up. There was a small leak in one of the window gaskets, and it would make one of the plastic pulleys used for "up" slippery enough it couldn't turn the cable. You could roll it up about a half inch at the time by waiting a few seconds between attempts.
Could be worse. A buddy of mine just had to take his Challenger in for warranty work because the window wouldn't stop going up/down the 1 inch for the door open/close (similar to the 86). It completely drained his battery before he could get it serviced. I asked why he didn't just pull the fuse and he gave me that "well duh!" look because he didn't think of it.

Cold temps won't prevent the windows from functioning, unless water freezes and causes ta jam. This is mostly happens when you just open a frozen door because the window will auto down/up a half inch. Also, I've read some people tearing their weatherstripping when water freezes to the back edge of the glass. If you clean/treat the rubber it should help prevent this. The instructions Tcoat posted above will help reset the motor/sensor.
One freezing workaround is to use a can of de-ice spray, I'm using one from Prestone. It evaporates quickly and won't harm anything. Before you open the door, spray some along the weatherstrip behind the glass, and along the wiper seal where the glass goes into the door. Wait a few seconds and the ice should just fall apart. I carry a backpack to and from work, so in the winter I just keep a can in the bag. If that's inconvenient, Throw a can in your trunk. |

I would still take it is and try to get the TSBs done. Since it is a cold weather issue there is no way you would have known until now so a good dealer should do them anyway. Worth a shot since I had them done and it worked well.

I would. It will just keep happening and eventually the cut off may not catch things in time and you will actually end up with a damaged window mech.

Sooo.. yes. Give it a shot. Hopefully, your guys are as helpful as mine have been so far. Oh.. and it was Tcoat who brought this to my attention when I questioned the auto-rolldown/up window-cracking for cabin pressure relief design some days ago. Thanks again, T! Barry |
