Is this normal?

Hi there, I'd like to know about something maybe you guys can help, 1) I have a keyless entry and keyless start on my gt and when I switch the car off it starts beeping until I close the door and lock it, am I doing something wrong here? Because its a bit annoying. 2nd question is the Nav system tends to lock a lot (meaning I cant type in addresses or access the system), which is annoying when youre trying to find an address at 140 kmh, anyone have any experience with this?
3 rd Issue is the seatbelt tends to cut into my shoulder no matter how I position it, I got a padding thingo and now its fine( left hand drive, left hand shoulder area), I'm wondering if it needs adjusting.

4 th issue is the air conditioning gas smells funny coming out of the vents, has anyone had any similar issues?

Its a brand new 2016. 3000 kms on it so far.

Thanks in advance.

This was a funny read.

But to answer your latter three questions since I don't have a keyless twin:

2. Nav system locks at certain speeds for obvious safety concerns. It's so the driver can focus on the road and not crash trying to input the address.

3. How bad does it cut in? My belt did the same thing from time to time until I attached it to the seat via the shoulder belt holder.

4. You have your air recirculator thing turned on, right? If not, have you determined that the gas isn't coming from outside the car?

Hey Hi,

Regarding the air conditioning, its on recycle mode so nothing from the outside is coming in, it just smells like the gas they use has a bit of a funky smell ( probably environment friendly or something)

Seat belt tried it through the shoulder belt holder and without same thing.

Could it be the nav is locking after I start moving? Interesting.
Thanks a lot.

I think the beeping is because your door is open, not because of the ignition is off.

1. I don't believe there to be a reason why yours would smell strange. If it persists or you're really worried, take it to the dealer.

2. Hmm. Sometimes the belt still cuts into my shoulder even when it is attached to the strap holder as well, although far less frequent. What type of clothing I wore would greatly mitigate this. My sister complained of the belts when she and her husband had their Corolla and Matrix. I was going to grab some TRD shoulder belt padding and see if it would completely resolve the issue, but the seatbelt doesn't cut into my shoulder that much to be a big deal for me.

3. The Nav locking is not an issue. It is a safety feature implemented in all cars on the road, or at least the ones I have seen. It is to prevent motorists from being distracted by the screen. If you need to input an address, pull over.

This was my thought too. I have little knowledge of how keyless systems work, but what I thought was having the remote in the car was equivalent to having the key in the ignition and opening the door.

I'm personally very against this "safety" feature. In my experience of watching others people on the road get frustrated, they either hold up traffic by stopping to put down an address or take out their phones and try to navigate by that instead. MUCH more dangerous if you ask me.

Some areas are so sketchy I won't dare park in.

It's also incredibly annoying

In those cases, I wouldn't blame the navi. I'd blame the idiot drivers. It's annoying, but it's there for a reason and there would be a whole lot of different issues if it wasn't there in the first place.

True about sketchy areas, though I've had no issues inputting addresses on my phone in dark areas. *knock on wood*

Messing with the Nav while moving is not a good idea no matter what.

Any distraction is not a good idea.

Results of just "messing with the odometer" at only 35 or 40 mph:

Also another question, the car I bought is branded as TRD GTX, white (thats all that was available) with a TRD kit fitted locally, problem is the kit is probably 2012/2015 white and the car is a 2016 mettalic white, there is a slight difference in color, which I didnt notice when I bought it, its a bit of a drag and unexcpected (zero mileage) am in the process of checking with the dealer what can be done. Now my question is, would you recommend I repaint the kit (dunno if thats possible) to the exact same color? Cover it with some sort of a decal? Or just forget about it?

I've turned off all the annoying beeping (door open, seatbelt, etc) with Toyota Techstream software.
Your dealer can do it for you.

My Toyota Touch@Go headunit allows me to fiddle with it at any speed, including nav.
What headunit do you have?

If the smell doesn't go away after a week or so I'd take it to the dealer.
