Saving / Re-using polish and waxing supplies?

What is the proper method for cleaning and then saving the discs and pads used for detailing work?

I had a wood pad that I used a couple years ago doing a cutting compound and polish and glaze, etc.. After inspecting it, there was no way I was going to use it on my new BRZ. So I bougth a new 6" foam pad for doing a sealant application and polish. I also used some applicator pads for polish and wax.

I'm wondering what I should do to clean and save them so that I can use them again in the future. Surely these aren't one and done items.. Do I have to use the same pad for the same chemical each time in the future? or could a foam pad that was once used for a sealant be used in the future for a wax or polish?

Thanks in advance!

Clean after use to get all the residue out. Dawn, APC, etc. They are interchangeable, but you wouldn't use a polishing pad to apply sealant. Some things like BFWD and Menzerna Power lock are so hard to clean fully that I maintain that one pad for that specific product.
