Supra/Celica GTS Lovers

Are you an old school GTS or Supra lover and finally got your FRS? What did you do with your GTS? After a laughable trade in offer, I kept my Carbon Blue GTS, deciding if I should craigslist it or have two awesome cars. What did you do? What was your deciding factor?

I still have my 2000 GTS and my 2000 Spyder. Mind you we still use the GTS for R&D every now and again, and we eventually plan on converting it into a race car and setting a few N/A and turbo drag records.

I'm building mine to be a weekend track car, and to be competent during High Performance Driving School.

Very nice. Is it an R?

Mine was a JDM import that started as a GA70 targa in Japan that was basically converted to Twin Turbo R spec over there. 1JZ, R154, shadow grey interior, factory Recaros, etc... Then came to Canada.
So it was kind of a weird hybrid since it had the narrow fenders and targa but 1JZ powertrain.
Rear diff was weird though. A 4.30:1 Torsen. But TTRs were 4.10:1 Torsens I thought? It just jumped ahead of the Canadian spec 1JZ swaps with the standard 3.73:1 rears like nothing... Maybe an option on the 1G cars?

I miss it... Probably would've kept it if it wasn't a targa.

My current one is not an R, it started out life as a JDM MA70 Limited, so it had the auto 7M. its since been converted to 1JZ and R154 and although it still retains the stock turbos, I have upgraded every single braking and suspension component on the car - the only original items left are the front LCAs and the rear UCAs.

I did have a genuine TT-R which i bought in 2005 and sold in 2008. It was a nice car but I think with the time and money ive put into my current 70, its a better car. Here is my old TT-R

And you're right, the JZA70 5 speeds all came with 4.11 final drive torsens. Yours looked nice! Narrow bodies are cool in their own way!

(It was quick but ratty.)

Stock turbos, but power steering delete (custom belt tensioning bracket), aluminum driveshaft, carbon hood, Apexi exhaust, dp, intake, ETS intercooler, Cusco coilovers and rear bracing, gutted, TRD Sports T3 wheels. I was trying to cut parasitic losses and weight before serious power. I wanted response. Sounds like the 86 will give me that.

(It was really ratty...)

Sorry to butt-in the Supra talk, but may i ask, how much does the stock Supra weigh?

Secondly, what the hell is up with the blue triangle on the Supra a few posts up? ..And why the hell do i like it so much?

Driving it was heavenly.

Parking not so much...

Asterix: North American turbo, 5 speed, non-targas are ~3450 lbs (Mk3s like these ones). But you can literally knock off 100 lbs with light seats (driver seat is over 70 lbs) and a carbon hood. Wheels are 22lbs for stock 16". My 17" wheels were ~16 lbs each.

You can cut weight to ~3200 lbs without too much work.

I still have dirty fantasies of doing a 7m hardtop and pulling the straight 6 and replacing it with a 2AZ aluminum 2.4L 4 cyl. Instant 200-300 lbs weight savings and 50/50 weight...

I had 2000 Celica GT-S, which became something of a "project" car.

It had a custom A2W IC and Eaton blower, and was putting down around 250 whp. A fun car to be sure.

I traded it in and put the money towards my 370Z. Kinda miss the Celi, but it didn't hold a candle to the Z in any regard. A definite upgrade.

I'm very interested in the FR-S -- provided they offer something like the Gazoo twincharged prototype. If they offer that car, it will definitely replace the Z in the near future.
