Transmission and differential question

I was wondering about valvoline syn power full synthetic 75w-90 for the tranny and diff. The reason I'm asking because I've searched for this in our cars but found nothing with valvoline. Second of all before the haters chime in this stuff is on our shelves in the shop so I was wondering if this is a quality product to put in since it's free to me

Hi ya, Frsboxer ........

I'd suggest you check your car's drivers manual (pages, 347 & 348 in my manual).

If that products fits the specifications, I reckon it would be OK to use.

I understand that Valvoline makes good products.

As long as it is api-gl5 you should be fine for the dif. The tranny uses api-gl3. Some additives in certain brands of api-gl5 are bad for syncros in the transmission. Just further your research. Better to know the hard facts than go off an opinion on the forums with no backing.

I've used $20/qt redline oils, and I'd put the Valvoline right up there with it, for a fraction of the cost. I had no issues with the GL5 rated 85w140 I used in my last project. The higher sulfur content of the diff fluid can harm brass synchos, but I never experienced any issues using the Valvoline in the transmission. It worked amazing in My RS5F70V and RS6 Aisin units without shifting problems at all.

Thank you all for the input I've searched for a valvoline input but couldn't find any anywhere on the interweb. I'll put the valvoline in the diff and get some redline ordered for the tranny.
