How many hours do you guys spend on an average clay bar session? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I forget which thread it was but some folks say they spend 4+ hours clay baring there car which seems a bit nuts, considering you still have to wax afterwards - so give or take 5-6 hours for the whole process (washing, claying, possibly polishing and finally waxing.) Is this actually the amount of time it takes to detail a car or are those people just picky?

I clay bar every couple of months and it usually takes me 1-2 hours.

Back in the day, it would take me about 4-5 hours to wash, clay bar and wax my small cars.

Now, this the schedule:

Day one, vac and wash

Day two, clay bar

Day three, wax top half

Day four, wax bottom half

X2 for the clay sponges like the Nanoskin. Much faster, can be used much more than a clay bar and isn't ruined if you drop it on the ground.

The process will take most of the day, considering polishing and waxing would be required after.

if im clay baring, im usually polishing the area i do afterwords

i will break it into sections,
i actually am starting to see some love marks on the car, need to bust out the polisher and do some work, ill probably do it once right before winter, apply a sealant and a couple coats of wax and call it a day

but id say atleast 1-2 hour sessions when i do it (usually 3 or 4 sessions)

Under 15 minutes.

Larger clay bar = more surface area = less time spent claying.

Clay baring is the easiest part. Easily done in 15-30 minutes with a good / large bar. The washing/polishing/waxing/etc is the part that takes the longest

This. I spend easily 12 hours washing, prepping, polishing, and waxing. Clay takes an hour or so with a good size piece and good lube.
