End of model life in 2 yrs and no changes coming in Australia?

Not intentionally trying to stir the rumor mill. I was honestly curious, as I'm doing research on the car, and about to buy one soon.

I was just watching some

, and the host started off by saying that it's no secret that there will be no update coming from Toyota and Subaru.

I've been following news/rumors on this car recently, and I've seen all kinds of information floating around with no fact to back it up, including an Australian click bait that a very specific and minor power bump is coming in 2017, but nothing about the platform going away. What does he or anyone across the pond knows that North America doesn't? Or is this some locally known fact that the Australian market won't get any further updates?

Judging by the combined sales numbers for the platform (beating the new Miata in its debut month), Subaru should be happy to keep pumping these cars out of their factory. My main concern as a potential buyer is that I might miss out on meaningful updates as we're approaching the end of the first model cycle. For example, I park in a tight underground garage everyday at work, it'll be great to have a back up camera from the factory. However, I live in Canada, and Subaru already announced there will no be updates for 2016 model year here, but in the US, BRZ gets new paint and special starlink unit made specifically to fit in the smaller dash. Seems updates just keep on coming even though Subaru is very busy keeping up demand with WRX/STI sales.

Anyone possibly from Australia have something to share? Or any trolls like to keep us entertained?

Like you, I am also about to buy one soon. There's one common theme around these cars, lots and lots and lots of speculation.

Turbo? maybe. Power bump? maybe. STi? maybe. The list goes on.

I've been patient for a while, so once the 2016 hits the lots I am going to bite or else I'd be waiting forever for the next thing that may not happen.

Any updates beyond what has been released is going to be purely speculation. Nobody knows what's going to happen until it actually happens. I'm fairly new to the forums but not quite as new to the car. I've been watching it closely for the past 2 years. If you like the car the way it is, buy it the way it is. Don't wait for something that may never come and end up wasting time you could have spent enjoying it. Anything could happen with the car, but there's really no reason to believe anything will. If it's not enough for you the way it is, then wait for it to either meet your standards or start looking for another car that will. But if it's enough the way it is, who cares what it might turn into next?

One last suggestion, if you're entirely on the edge, you can always wait until they release the next model and if you don't like it then grab the previous model. But do keep in mind this next model that you're hyping up might never exist. And there's no articles online that can change that fact.

So far, every update is a direct bolt on to an older generation car (which is by design), so there's not much risk of buying one now and adding parts later. You mention the back up camera and while it appears it's not required up there, it is here, so getting the parts would be easy.


Unless you like a certain color or special edition, there's really not much reason to wait.


Also, ignore just about everything you hear out of Australia for car info. Guess Australia doesn't have celebrities to make up shit about so they do it about cars

Why? Dead car = no aftermarket and high maintenance costs. It also doesn't mean your resale is going to be high either because rare =/= desirable. The market dictates that.

I wanted this Because hopefully current owners DO get a fair price when we want to sell it ;D
