I have a few questions though before i take the plunge.

1. How cumbersome are the driving aids? Do they turn come back on once you turn them off, more thinking of the TCS or ESP or ACT systems. I want a fun car to drive but having a computer inhibit me from doing that will be a big issue.

2. If you flash or chip the car will it permanently turn off the driving aids?

3. How well do these cars hold boost or mods in general.

1. not cumbersome at all. 3 second hold on the button at any time will turn off both traction control and stability control. they stay off until you cycle the power (shut off engine).
2. Can't answer this completely, but i don't think so.
3. They make power just fine, with boost. since they're an NA engine, high compression, low revving (under 8,000rpm) they respond well to E85 and a reflash but bolt-ons don't do much (exhaust, intake, etc). there are header sets making upwards of 25hp (peak) even without supporting mods, but prepare to spend some serious coin.

1. Every time engine is off, it resets to DD use. Its dummy proof so you wont spin out like me at 40mph in the rain.
2. There's always ways around. Just make sure you know what you are doing.
3. think 1-2hp/bolt on...if you get 1-2hp lol

Looking for speed? Maybe a twin isn't the car you'd enjoy in the long run. Try a 350z. They good. Looking to enjoy just daily driving like if you were driving a old school go-kart or moped with a big engine. This is the car for you. It's tons of fun, it's a thrill to drive, and my only complain is mpg @ 26.2 now that I'm doing 70% driving in city. Oh and it requires premium btw.

Good to know about 1. I know some cars never actually turn off the driving aids. That if things get to bad they still come back on. During controlled settings like Autox or drifting events this is a issue.

2. Would love a answer to this. Chiping or reflashing is usually the first thing i do to a car.

3. First major mod would be FI (after flash) so IHE would be kinda pointless first.

My main concern is these cars seem to be under powered. I went from a 400hp rx7 to a stock 03 1.8t jetta. With only 150 fpt that kinda scares me.

you're headed back downhill on power levels.

read up on the pedal dance. also, the OFT (search for that) will allow pedal dance mode to be turned on with the touch of a button, (but that takes the fun out of the dance!).

do you autocross? I used to race with GulfCoastAutocrossers.

read up on class requirements before doing something stupid like forced induction. you'll lose in your class, every damn time. an STX build can be fun, except that they disallowed E85 (stupid whining RX8 guys, from what i heard).

The members above already answered your questions it seems so I'll say this:

Go ask for a test drive. Make sure you hit twisty backroads for about an hour instead of going around the block. That should give you a little indication of what the car is about.

If the salesdude took me around the block instead of the secret twisty on my 1st and only test drive, I may have considered another car.

(I'm lying about the last statement. I was already sold on it back in March!)

If you wanT power, look elsewhere. This car is about the driving experience without anything extra.

Sorry to say it, but this car isn't fast in a straight line, or in corners. But it does handle exceptionally well and gives an amazing driving experience. That's what you get when you buy this car.

Edit: to be honest, I've always been quick to defend what this car is about, but now after owning it for just over half a year I'm ready to move on. Looking at 370z's, genesis', Mustangs and a few others this weekend. As much as it's going to suck to move away from an amazing feeling chassis, I want more speed Without having to boost the car.

handling exceptionally well and being slow in the corners... you kiiiiinda contradicted yourself.

this is one of the best cars i've owned (for the corners), once slightly modded, simply because it's big enough to run wider rubber than my old cars. the brz is the heaviest car i've ever owned, yet it carries the weight very gracefully.

Not necessarily. It's still slow, but it handles well.

fast in the corners has absolutely almost nothing to do with power. entry speed is your friend .

No need to turn off the TC/Stab on teh street. A good set of tires and you're fine, the system doesn't intervene. It's a pain turning them off anyway. I would lose the back end just on bits of sand on my road in April so I like having it.

These cars with some kind of forced induction kit is a blast to drive! A supercharger would be enough but if you want more power go turbo! The only real complaints about this car is heat. Oil temp to be exact, if you go FI then you'll definitely need an oil cooler, with that being said, I'd try to find a turbo kit where the turbo isn't mounted directly in the front of the engine bay. If you go with a SC then you don't really have a choice but they don't produce as much heat as a turbo does. You may want a second car if you go FI as well in case if something does break, since these aren't meant to be FI and make sure you get a good tune if you go that route because that's where most of the failures come from is a bad tune (from what I've seen).
