Strange Rapid Fire Sound?
Hi guys, recently bought the car and discussed the issue here on this thread
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88854 But would like to post it again here for different people to see as I believe it's an "issue". Car is a 2015 series.blue 2900 miles First problem is this sound in this video, around the 7 second mark (you have to listen closely and turn your volume up), it will sound like a quick rapid fire sound, that's the only way I can describe it. It happens when I'm driving and throw it into neutral to coast to a stop, when my brother drives the car, he downshifts and the sound never happens. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPDcfyipCbA"]BRZ Strange Sound - YouTube[/ame] [ame]http://youtu.be/i0Cwr0DaHHc[/ame] - This is edited to make the sound louder. Second is an issue while driving around, yesterday, I heard a random ass screech, like my tire or something, freaked me out, but there was no loss of control of the car, I can't replicate the issue and it was out of the blue. I suggest you drive it like your brother does. Now, when you come to a stop, it would good to slip it into nuetral and let out the clutch (saves wear on the throw-out bearing). Back in the day, we would NEVER slip a car into neutral when slowing ..... because, one never know when the mechanical brakes may be frozen ..... thus, we could lessen the impact of the crash ...... ![]() humfrz |

Does the shifter shake when that happens? Probably the AC dragging on the engine as the revs fall making it almost stall out.

Could be something with the TC activating. Not under power but still moving maybe the TC thinks its lost traction? Dunno, just guessing wildly

The first sound seems too slow to be TCS/ABS, but that could be just how it comes across in the video. Are you using the clutch to pull out of gear? If not, you should be. If your brother can't identify a difference in how you're shifting, yet you can reliably produce the sound, take it to a dealer and ask to ride with a tech. If it is an issue with technique they will most likely say so. If not, they will know exactly what to look for when diagnosing it.
As for the tire screech: no where near enough information to even guess. Were you turning? Driving straight? Around traffic? Working all night? On a back road? Driving over a road imperfection? Conquering Alexandria? Sleeping all day? |

Turn off your AC and it won't do it. This is a common problem with a lot of the vehicles. There was an ECU flash to fix it, I think. Its just the RPMs dipping because of the A/C being on when you put it in neutral. Happens often pulling up to red lights.
Don't overthink a problem |

Yep, took it to a dealer, I'm completely overthinking and overly anxious. They said it was nothing and I should stop worrying about all the small sounds LOL.
I will be practicing my downshifting, I'm taught to always clutch whenever I touch the shifting knob so that's already wired into my brain. |

You actually save more gas leaving it in gear when slowing down. In neutral, the injectors are firing to keep engine idle up. Deceleration Fuel Cutoff will happen if you are in gear, meaning that the engine is turning based on being connected to the drivetrain that is still moving, but no fuel is being used.
