OFT Error - unconfigured device, cannot be used.
I just purchased an OFT from a member on the forum and everything was fine until it read my ECU, didn't generate a tune file and now both read and write are greyed out still. I cannot do anything and it gives me this error when I connect it to the manager on my computer (I have a 2015 limited BRZ):
Anyone else had this problem at all or know what I can do? I emailed the info to openflash to see what they say.

If it read your ecu ok then it normal for read to go grey, the write has gone grey as it does not have any tunes loaded suitable for your car. So thats normal. It may have triggered the erase counter, think early oft only had two erases(full erases of device), The oft guys can reset that if you ring\email them the oft serial number Assume you laptop was connected to internet when you plugged in oft ?? it needs internet for updates and to verify erase count on initial setup |

just to follow up, I kept messing with it and it finally connected to the computer and started downloading updates. I uploaded tune files and will try connecting to the car to see what it tells me. And yes it was connected to the internet when I first plugged it in. Maybe it just didnt grab all of the updates. I also updated the template just to make sure.

ok it seems that it worked, the car is now idling outside so it can learn a bit before I go for a test drive.

Just in case anyone else has this problem I got a response from the OFT people. I hope this helps someone if they need it in the future, here is what they said:
This error message will show up once in awhile. All you have to do is unplug the unit and let it sit for 30seconds and restart the software. Once the software is open and it says connecting to devices, at this time plug the tablet into the computer and try it again. Cheers

I had the same issue recently. I hadn't used my OFT in a while, so when I plugged it into my pc it download a bunch of updates - after which I got the error.
Waiting 30 seconds, then retrying - didn't work for me. ![]() FIX: Plugged it into my car, read the ECU data (obviously don't write to ECU), then replugged into my pc again. OFT downloaded a bunch more updates, but at the end - no error.

Sorry to revive an old post everybody.
I wanted to give some more clarification to this issue i had. ValkenRebel was correct, I had to wait 30 seconds and give it another chance. Also, I had to make sure that I connected the oft directly to a USB plug that is wired to the motherboard itself, not one wired to my pc's case, or my usb splitter. |
