Something I have noticed
I think that i speak for a lot of people when I say that there are a lot of a**holes on this forum.
I have seen it plenty of times where someone asks a question and then get flamed for asking it. Isn't part of the reason for a forum to ask questions and get feedack? If someone asks a question that CAN be answered through a SEARCH doesnt mean that the person didn't try to find the answer themself. I know that when I search for things I don't always get the information I'm looking for. Or it may be a technical topic that I know nothing about so I dont understand what im reading. Example: I know nothing about tuning(engine or suspension), so when I search I get all the technical jargin on the subject which I dont understand. I then post a question in hopes that someone will help me understand more about tuning(because we all started from the same place, knowing nothing on the subject). There are some of you that provide help and guidence and even post a link to a barney level thread which is extremely helpful. Then there are those of you that just want to rag on and troll the OP about "no one likes to just hands out answers," "should have just done a seach, this has already been answered plenty of times," "took me only 3 mins to find this thread through the search." Those kind of posts are not necessary. We are all adults here, right, act like it. If you have an answer to someones quesion cool answer it and be done. Don't criticize someone because they cannont find the information. Because like in my example just cause there is an answer, it doesnt mean that the OP was able to understand what they were reading. Here are some examples of what I saw today that caused this rant. "OP, one thing about this forum is you must search. Obviously you're not the first person to ask something like this, and there's tons of info on tuning solutions." maybe the information was out of the OP's comprehension level, thats why they asked the question. "Oh, and wait a minute, what's this? I've just discovered that there's an entire section on this board related to tuning! Maybe you should take a look in there?" Really we are going to start mocking the OP because they asked the question. end rant |

The only time im an asshole is when theres blatant evidence of non search usage going on, when there is the exact same thread, 4 rows down and it has the answers in it.
Technical crap is something everyone had to learn and everyone asked those questions "what is this, why does this happen, why do we do this instead of this". While this may be googleable, I am completely willing to answer those questions to the best of my ability.

its also a forum policy to search, and to not clutter up the search engine, #2 comandment.
Although I live by a rule of thumb, if its not within the first 5 pages you can ask the question.

So many of those guys that don't even bother to look first post their questions in the totally wrong section anyway. If you want tuning info go ask on the tuning thread. Sure maybe a search didn't turn up what you wanted to know but you should be at least able to figure out what tech sub section is appropriate. You will get far better answers with almost no hassle if you at least go to the trouble of asking in the right place.
The next level of questions are those that are so subjective there really isn't a right answer anyway. "I want a loud exhaust which one is best" or "what coilovers should I get". With not one single word of what they want too do with the car included is as useless as not asking at all. If you have a well thought out question with some details to work with then you get well thought out answers. The majority of people that get the "search" replies are these guys that haven't put one second of independent thought into what they want and it shows. These are also the guys that frequently ask some basic question and then are never heard from again. Then there is the third category of question which to me are far greater assholes than anybody that ever responded with "search"! These are the jerkwads that ask a question but don't really want to see any answer except the one they already have in their heads. These questions are frequently worded "I was thinking about getting the XXX coil over. What do you guys think?" or something along those lines. The OP will then get all uppity and argue with every single response no matter how reasonable it was. If you already know don't ask the bloody question. I bet I could log on under a different name (I wouldn't there Mods) and ask a well thought out question, provide some useful info, ask in the right section and show appreciation for all answers, right this minute and not get a single "search" or snide answer in reply.

Definitely gotta agree with TCoat here.
We've been around long enough that there are a multitude of threads on nearly every topic and it is all accessible if you search for it. If not via the VBulletin search, then by Google searching and pointing towards our site. And if it's not found via search, post a new thread in the right subforum and keep an open attitude about it. There are likely people who have the same question, and people who (hopefully) have an answer. All this being said, don't be a jerk to anyone, noob or otherwise. If there's a quick answer to a noob question, then answer it instead of saying "Search you newb, blah blah your mom". If the question gets answered in the second post, let me know and I'll lock the thread. That way there won't be unnecessary bumps to the thread and it remains searchable for the next new guy to find. Too many people on forums begin building a wall around them and hiding behind their "OG" status. We are not trying to become a forum that rips newbies a new asshole and addresses people by their join date. Everyone should play nice with each other as we all share a common goal, and that's to further our passion for this platform. If you see somebody trolling, just let me know! There's no harm in PMing me, or any of the other moderators. We'll look at the post and address with the best of our ability. Just understand this, don't come to us if you have some sort of personal vendetta against somebody, because you might be the one who ends up getting punished. If you got beef, I suggest you reevaluate how much energy you're putting into the forums and understand that it's just as easy to misunderstand things that are written on the internet as it is to come up with some macho response and start a flame war. /rant TL;DR - Peace, love and D4S makes the world go 'round.

Ordered my new twin - delivery 6 months out.
Buying parts to put on it this week. What are the best mods to charge on my credit cards to get 500whp. Those, I don't reply, rather than getting snarky.

You're expecting too much ![]() Quote:
Well played. Quote:
I try not to be too hard on people like that. If they're either new to car modding or come from a smaller car modding community with a far smaller aftermarket, they simply won't know that there is a MASSIVE selection of parts to make this car do whatever they want. Quote:
This. This pisses me off more than anything in my daily life and everywhere I go. Confirmation bias sucks and just shows that person has a closed mind and is willfully ignorant. I just try ignore it and not reply on the forums because I deal with it enough at work. |

This forum has got to be the most harmless and outright pleasant that I have ever encountered! Calling someone out for gumming up sections or posting redundant threads is a far cry from threatening sexual assault or murder of one's entire bloodline.
