A new wrinkle in hath "which way to go" question...

So I work in sales and daily drive my car. I am all over the place and end up idling in customer parking lots either waiting for appointments, making phone calls, or planning my next stop. I am going FI for sure and was pretty set on turbocharging. It's getting warm here in florida (that's hot for the rest of the country, lol) and it got me thinking as out the engine heat soaking or really not being able to handle the heat from the turbo even with an oil cooler due to idling a bunch.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I have never seen this question asked and I think I am fairly unique as to how my car is used. Would I be better off with a supercharger just due to less heat in the engine bay?

Yeah, I have read all of that...does anyone mention idling for 20 plus minutes after a long drive? How about constant stop/starts? I have seen NOTHING speaking to that.

As long as you have a way for the heat to vent (through the hood and make the side vents functional) idle temps should be fine.

When people make those mods they park the car and can feel the heat bleed from those vents, i doubt idle would make it worse.

I've had no issues with heat on our AVO setup, but unlike the majority of kits, it is mounted low like the 2015 WRX.

Is anyone using turbo timers? One of my biggest question is basically cooking the oil. Again, working in sales I do tons of cold calls and lots of stops and starts in a short period and that's a worry of mine since all of her be turbo kits feed off of he the engine oil.

Again, through all of my searching it's usually people talking about keeping the car cool on track.

On track is the extreme case (I haven't seen turbo timers this side of 2006) if you do half the cooling mods for the track you'll be fine. The airflow in is not what you need to worry about, it's airflow out. So vents are always good.

I would suggest a vented hood, turbo blanket, and wrap/coating on the headers and over pipe. Aside from that, it should be fine.

Good to know. Ironically enough i posted this thread while doing exactly what i was describing, idling in a customers parking lots after 3-4 stops in a 15 minute window and some hard driving in between (I have no patience for traffic...)

thanks for a little more info.
