Keep OEM USB w/ after market head unit?
I'm picking up a BRZ on Friday and planning to swap out the OEM had unit for something better. Is it possible to keep the USB in the center console functional?

If you want to keep the OEM plug(s), you'll need an adapter. Metra AX-TOYUSB or PAC Audio USB-TY1 If you want to keep the OEM AUX functional as well, it comes off the 28-pin connector. You can get a harness from here: http://ae64.com/aftermarket-HU-install-parts-2012FT.htm Scroll down to the section on the 28-pin harness. If you go that route, you can get the AX-TOYUSB directly from him as well. The other option, as given by @Chimera, is to pull out the factory USB/AUX port module and just replace it with the one he linked to. In fact, I did this exact thing in my BRZ with my Pioneer HU, and I can confirm that it is a 100% perfect drop-in replacement fit. It couldn't be any easier. And, wouldn't ya know it, I just happen to have an extra AX-USB-35EXT. I'll gladly sell it to you for a very fair price, just PM me. |

Other solution is to simply cut off stock connectors on USB/AUX harness and solder standard USB and RCA (or any other) connectors. That is what I have done and it works fine
