Autocross events??

Anyone local in Seattle that does autocross? I am so confused as to which events to do as I'm a novice? I see one coming up 4/12

Can I do both or should I stick to just one? Any help is greatly appreciated! And can I just do afternoon runs, or do you have to do AM and PM? I want to check the track out before I run it, do they let you take a look at it before the PM runs? Or just in the AM? Again, newbie here so any help is appreciated!

You can try the event on the 12th and see how you like it. If the weather is nice it's even better. As long as you arrive on time, others (drivers and club members) will guide you through the experience. Both morning and afternoon sessions are usually similar. Signing up is easy, you'll have time to walk and see the course, time to talk with other drivers, instructors will be available at no extra charge, You'll have fun! I have no doubt.
Some people use painters tape (blue stuff) for numbers and to protect their car from cone scuffs. There should be people there with plenty if you need to borrow some just ask, don't be shy.
The course in Bremerton is not a new surface, and has some unevenness. But don't let that scare you. The club won't put you into any big dips or holes.
There are several other women driving out there, including a gal named Michele Miller who you may likely run into (not with your car). She is a class champ, very experienced, fast, and a great instructor.

You can do both, and all, as a novice (I'm pretty sure all local clubs are now treating Novice as a full season class). Don't forget about wwscc.org/schedule. You can have a full weekend of autocrossing on the 11th/12th if you like!

Yeah, you'll have time to do course walks if you're running just PM.

Just do every event you can if you really want to get into it. Novices are welcome at all events and NWR-SCCA just changed their rules to allow you to do novice for your first full year (used to be just 3 events). If you can't do novice you can always do time only, too.

Thanks guys! I went to the practice runs/autocross event in Auburn and loved it. I want to start going once a month but didn't know the difference between the 2 events? Is it just held by different vendors/sponsors? I see tons of events but want to stick to one autocross event/season. Any feedback on which sponsor or series I should stick with?

Bremerton (BSCC) only happens at Bremerton Motorsports Park (go figure) and is pretty laid back in terms of rules. You tend to get a lot of novices out there at those events.

SCCA does 4 events a year at Bremerton and 4 a year at Packwood. I strongly suggest you take at least one trip to Packwood this year to check it out as it's the best venue we have (thus we host National events there twice a year). Usually you can make a weekend vacation out of it as its nestled on the southeast corner of Mt. Rainier and the surrounding area is gorgeous. The classing rules in the SCCA are much more strict but for novices it's the same basic rules across both clubs.

I believe SCCA will cost you $5 more per half-day but both clubs will charge you the additional $5 for not pre-registering (don't remember but BSCC might be $10?).

If you're going to do either club this year you should also get a full year's membership with at least one of them. For SCCA I believe you had to fill out a weekend membership for the Saturday practice event so you should already get like a $15 discount on the full year. You can also use my membership number (#456073) as a referral which gives an additional discount if that's the route you decide to go.

BSCC full year memberships can be purchased at the registration desk prior to the events. I don't recall if they require a full year membership or if they offer a weekend variety.

BSCC does offer a weekend membership if you want to just check them out for one event I believe it is either 5 or 10 bucks. Also I will be at the event on the 12th in the silver brz #43 if you need any help or want to ride along for a run.

I see that event in Auburn really hooked you! I will probably see you in Packwood if you make it out there.

If you want a real rush, try the Pro Solo format. It's a cross between drag racing and autocross. NWR SCCA is holding a two day event ion Packwood in May. Pro Solo on Saturday and autocross on Sunday.

They don't have any details posted yet for the pro solo but it's on the schedule.

It's basically two mirroring autox courses. Two cars start at once (one on each side). A drag style light tree is used for the starts. Your best time from each side is added together to determine finishing position. You'll get a total of 8 runs (4 per side) at the NWR event.

It is easily my favorite format.
