Modules? Relays?
I sent an email to V-LED about switching my 9005/hb3 to an LED and this was their response:
"These will fit any standard 9005 housing/socket. Unfortunately, we have not had a chance to work on a FR-S..yet! WE are expecting one soon though. * Pretty sure you will need a relay harness with those though, possibly a DRL module. * * Some vehicles need extra load on the circuit; some need two modules, a relay harness or a combination of any of those. Obviously we don’t have every car here to figure it out, so there is a time that it comes down to the car owner, most people find that the forums are a wealth of info. We can tell you how our products are designed and how they work, but only you have your car. * Items you may need may include: * Relay Harness * http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...62160-1-2.html *************** DRL module(s) * http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...97704-1-2.html * Resistors * http://www.v-leds.com/BlinkerWarning...85827-1-2.html * Please keep in mind these are all for vehicles that use 9005 type bulbs in that application. The same products are available on our website in the 9006 configuration." Does anyone have any experience with this and can help me understand what if any additional parts/modules/etc I may need to purchase AND in what order to install them. I am aware that I may lose the "high beam" function and I'm okay with that... Any and all help from those with experience is greatly appreciated!!! -Scik Graeson * |

Let me confirm this. You want to switch your High Beam light (which is also your DRL) to an LED? You do realize this will basically make your high beams useless at night, right?

Yes. I realize this. I haven't used a high beam in years. HID LOW BEAMS ftw. Can you help?

I've never done what you are planning. With that said, I can only give you an idea that I would try. There is a resistor for the DRL function, as shown in a thread on deactivating the DRL function. That resistor sucks power away during the day so the high beams only get around 30% power. I would try bypassing that resistor. Basically unplugging it, and running a jumper cable across it and see what happens. If my theory about it works, then your lights would be at 100% power during the day.
Again, that's just something that I would try. You can try it if you have experience with these things. Or hopefully someone else will chime in to correct me. |
