Blacked out my Tails. - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

last weekend was painting. this week the sealant was curing. so mounted the tails with complete black housing. i also VHT Niteshaded the side marker for the euro/japanese look.

i will add a couple of notes about doing this mod.

- you're just going to have to live with being able to see some cuts when u look at it up close.
- dust fucking sucks
- 3m windo weld is great stuff.
- i used a radio shack soldering iron with a copper tip to make my cuts.
- these came off a MY2013 car and my car is MY2014. the MY14 gaskets are way thicker than MY13 gaskets.

how did i do?

Looks good. What paint did you use? flat/gloss? Maybe put a thin coat of nightshades on the bulbs so they reflect darker?

I purchased an extra set of tail lights to do exactly this. But I am on the fence about the cut lines showing from the opening process. Either way, there's way too much yucky chrome going on with the FRS.

at first i used gloss then i switched to satin/flat. i didnt like how much light was bouncing around when it tested it with gloss black finish. at night u can tell the subtle difference when you are only seeing the LED output of the lights.

I like the look of the amber bulb but i never thought about niteshading them to make it darker. ill try it later.
