steering wheel coming partially loose
Hello. recently installed a steering wheel hub and a nardi wheel on my BRZ. I did manage to bypass the airbag, but the TRC would stubbornly stay on. so I ditched that project and went back to the OEM wheel.
just two hours ago now, when driving home, the steering wheel came a bit loose by half an inch, immediately pulled over, and I still had the tools I needed with me. opened it up again, and found that the nut had loosened. tightened it up again pretty vigorously, in my head the wheel coming loose is just waiting to happen again though, and that's a potential disaster. so I'm retiring it for now. mostly wanted to ask for what solutions you would suggest, and also if there is supposed to be a washer behind the nut holding the steering wheel on. I did not notice any when disassembling the wheel the first time, and I've looked all over the floor if I had somehow lost it. is it as simple as some threadlocker? thanks in advance |

If you tighten it enough it shouldn't be a problem again, I've had my wheel off twice now, each time just torquing the nut as much as I could and have had no issues.
There is no washer, just the flanged nut. |

alright, thanks. I didn't really check to see, but is there any way for the nut to come all the way off, sending me into a ditch with a steering wheel in my hands?
or does the head of the nut hit the airbag and keep it from coming all the way off? I'll go buy some loctite on monday, put some of that on and torque it as hard as is feasible. |

hmm...concerning
Either way, if it feels "loose" again, just make sure to PRESS on the steering wheel, so you can at least maintain control of the wheel until you pull over without pulling it off. |
