Question ipod/iphone music control via usb?

hi there!

is there a way to control your music directly from the iphone/ipod when connected to the stock USB port?

every time i connect my iphone to the usb port, i can only control music through the head unit.

i would like to control music on my iphone so that i can scroll faster.

any ideas??

any configuration i need to set?

when im using bluetooth music stream i can control directly from my iphone but not when wired

That's just the way it works with the iPod and iPhone. Go Bluetooth or aux port if you want to get around that.

It's just the way it is, because of the connection handshaking between the iDevice and the HU is implemented in the software. I've been very happy with it though once I figured out how to get the HU to scroll directly to an alphabet letter rather than trying to scroll to the entire list.

It doesn't HAVE to work this way, but the way. The OS on the device supports two modes. One is full control by the external device (what the HU uses) and another is shared control. I know this because we have a PIE interface for our Mustang's Shaker 500 that allows to select the type of control you want (iPod control/HU and iPod Control) depending on which Aux/Sat selection you make.

There's an option in the settings to change the control to iPod direct. Set that on or off to select whether you want the HU or iPod to be in control.

I have the basic one. I have to check where exactly, but it's there. I've switched between the 2 settings multiple times now.

Oh, iPod might have to be plugged in to see that option.

I'm at work right now, but I can try off memory. First connect the iPod with the USB cable. I use Apple one. Then select the iPod and have it playing something. Press the volume knob to go into the settings. From there check in Settings or Audio Control or something like that. Try to find the option that says iPod Direct Control (or something similar). Select that and you can choose On/Off. Once I get back home I'll jump into the car and get the exact details for you.

Score one for the Scion. I don't think the Subaru has that option.

Ha nice, I just saw this thread and was gonna post up about that. I was tinkering with it this morning trying to figure out how to tell it to STOP automatically playing bluetooth audio off of my phone when I turn on the stereo. I only want BT audio for phone calls, I have an iPod touch for music over USB. :P
