Toyota Gold - Platinum warranty

Hi guys, I am leasing an FRS for 4 years.

Should I take the protection plan they offered me ? it is about 1450$ and the guy said that he only makes 50$ on it

This includes road assistance and 8 oil/filter changes (almost 80*8 = 640$)
cancelling my CAA 4*100 = 400$

Total = 1040$ so basically paying 400$

Thank you for your input.

Was worth it for me to get the platinum plan for 19xx. 6 free oil changes and roadside assistance works out to around 1300. Considering I was able to cancel my CAA coverage, and I get some free oil changes, worked out to be a good deal in my situation.

They include road assistance and 8 oil / filter changes. Not sure what oil. he said I can choose. But I heard you can get same thing for cheap. (I am not sure if it includes oil change). How do you like the frs ? I just wish they have the HID headlight on it like BRZ.

Warranty is either a scam, or it's extremely worth it, it all really depends on your circumstances, how you drive the car, etc.

If nothing happens and you bought the warranty, you'll think it's not worth it.
If something does happen, and you didn't buy the warranty, you might be kicking yourself.

I personally don't take warranty because you're spending money on the possibility of something happening. Plus you are only leasing for 4 years so...

Based on your math, that's money you'd be spending anyways. So, really in your case it may be worth it to pony up the money for the warranty and go for it

Depends, I'll start by mentioning I work at a Toyota retailer in the parts department. I have the Platinium 7/120 on my FR-S. If you were keeping the car long-term(6-10 years) as I plan to, then it's a no brainer, it will most definetely pay for itself, very few exceptions. However, on a short term lease(4 years), the chances you will use it are less likely. It covers some things beyond basic warranty, electronic components through the term being the big one, tires for a period(free replacement) is another on the platinium, less stuff is covered on the gold policy(read the details). Roadside assistance is part of your basic warranty for 3yr/60, so you can cancel your CAA if thats why you have it.

CAA does more than just roadside assistance. They lobby in the interest of motorists, which Toyota almost surely doesn't do. I support CAA by keeping my membership with them.

Warranty terms and fees are always determined to be in favour of the entity selling the warranty. Unless the engineers got it wrong and there is a GLARING issue with almost every car built, they will come out ahead, not you. There is almost no way that the extended warranty is worth it.

First point is fair.

However, point number 2, you saying it isn't worth it is quite subjective. I cancelled my CAA Gold membership in favour of the Toyota roadside assistance (cause, honestly, the Toyota one provides more). Right there I saved $644.10 over my 5 year warranty. I get 8 free oil changes with my warranty. That's another $631.20. So, I get $1275.30 worth of services I'd be paying for anyways over 5 years on a warranty that cost me $1900. Pretty good deal for a warranty, if you ask me.

To each their own and leave it at that.

IMO unless you're one of the rare people who actually need it, all extended warranties are scams and cash grabs by companies regardless what the extended warranty is for..

you can change the oil yourself 8 times for way less than $640, like half of that price

Warranties are products. Companies sell products to make money. Companies make money selling warranty products. People give money to companies to get warranty products. Companies make money from people giving them money to get warranty products.

Any new vehicle comes with roadside assistance for 3yr/60k. Each 0w20 oil change for FRS is about $60 tax in. Powertrain warranty is still good for 5yr/100k. Unless you plan to buyback the vehicle, it makes no sense to me to purchase extended warranty on a leased vehicle that you'll return.
