Victorian Dealers ripping people off!!!

Hey guys,

I have a feeling my dealer maybe ripping me off. I paid a deposit before the pricing was released.

The dealer called me on Saturday morning and informed me of the drive away price being: $42,700.

What are the fee's that the dealer has the ability to increase and decrease and what fee's are set by the state?

GTS Auto White in Victoria.

Is this how the Drive Away prices are figured out? Or do I have it all wrong? Am I missing some Fee's?

So should the Maths look like this:?????

$37,990 GTS Auto
$949.75 Stamp Duty (2.5% of RRP)
$676.50 Rego (From Vicroads Website)
$449.90 CTP (From the TAC Website)
$1895 Dealer Delivery

= $41961.15

there is still a good $750 that is not being accounted for.

you NEED to ask questions and get that cost itemized on paper for you. That's how dealers make money, by adding on things you may not be aware of or fully understand. Don't get cheated out of your hard earned money.

Correct. And it must also be included in any options/accessories like metallic paint, mats, tint, etc prior to calculating stamp duty. By the way, each state and territory has a different stamp duty percentage and different methods of application (usually but not always set on the tare weight of the vehicle).

that's why if possible try to buy accessories from parts directly to avoid stamp duty, unless you can get a good discount together with the deal.

I'm not sure how it's done in VIC, but I was quote around the same price for the exact same car.
Actually, from the numbers you've given above, the Drive Away price would be $45283.75

he added GST again which should be included in RRP so you need to take $3,799 off.

Sounds about right.

Mine was 42,220 drive away. Yours is white so it's $500 extra for the pearl paint. It might be removed when full car pricing comes on the 18th.

GTS Auto White in Victoria.

Dealer Delivery = $1895 (this is on my printed documentation from the dealer)

Includes GST Unless your pricing has been presented to you as a fleet type quotation where the GST is shown for accounting/taxation purposes.

Stamp Duty = 2.5% of $37,990 (GTS Auto RRP)

Calculated on the total cost of the vehicle prior to registration

GST = How is this calculated?

Calculated at 10% or One 11th if working out how much GST is in a particular price.

Rego = $650ish (from memory?)

Not sure as it varies by state or territory but usually between 290-400

Third Party = No idea?

Usually around 4-600 dollars. But i can understand how you could be confused by CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Insurance because for years as far as i am aware Vicroads have been including it in the price of registration.

But with all of that, it doesnt add up to anywhere near $42,700 Drive Away.

So do I need to talk to the dealer and ask for an explanation?
Hope the above helps.

There are a number of ways the dealer could have presented you with the price but the 3 most common are for example:

Example !:

RRP: $39,990
Dealer Delivery: $1,895
Metallic Paint: $350
--------------------------
Sub: $42,235
x 2.5% Stamp Duty: $1,056
Registration: $350
Plate Fee: $39
CTP: $400
---------------------------
Total: $44,080

Example 2:

List: $36,354.54
Dealer Delivery Fee: $1,722.72
Metallic Paint: $318.18
---------------------------------
Sub Excluding GST: $38,395.44
---------------------------------
GST (Sub x 10%): $3,839.54
---------------------------------
Sub Incl. GST: $42,234.98

x 2.5% Stamp Duty: $1,055.87
Registration: $350
Plate Fee: $39
CTP Excl GST: $363.63
CTP GST (CTP x 10%) $36.36
---------------------------
Total: $44,040.84

Example 3:

Drive away Price: $44,000.00
Includes GST, Stamp Duty, Dealer Delivery Fee, Metallic Paint, Registration & CTP.

The above examples are hypothetical only as without seeing your actual deal/contract i have had to guess the registration, plate fee and CTP Green Slip Pricing (It's called a Green Slip in NSW).

Having said that mate if you buy Toyota Genuine accessories and have them fitted to your new Toyota prior to delivery they are given the same amount of warranty as the new car instead of only 12 months warranty so it can be a great benefit to cop a little bit of extra stamp duty.

In Victoria the stamp duty is 2.5%.

So should the Maths look like this:?????

$37,990 GTS Auto
$949.75 Stamp Duty (2.5% of RRP)
$676.50 Rego (From Vicroads Website)
$1895 Dealer Delivery

= $41511.25

there is still a good $1200 that is not being accounted for.

I understand there is CTP and Plate Fee (which should be removed as I have my own plates), but that cannot possibly be $1200 worth right?

true but for stuff like floor mats and boot mats, they wear out/got dirty quicker than 12months anyway. obviously stuff that require fitting/installation (eg. fog lights, tow ball etc) i'd put it down on the contract.

Did he add $500 for metallic paint? My dealer did and the price is pretty much what you've been quoted. Of course come the 18th if metallic paint comes standard (which it should) it get's removed.

Here is a quick update. Reading up on VICROADS website CTP is also known as the TAC Transport Accident Charge.

According to this form it is: $449.90

http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/upload/TAC_WebRates.pdf

There is still a good $750 not being accounted for by the dealer.
