Front pipe-necessary?

I have a Revworks header to install. Some people here have indicated a problematic seal to a stock overpipe. I don't want repeated issues so I have decided to buy a 2.5" OD overpipe. This was an unexpected purchase and it then occurred perhaps just get the front pipe too and be done with it.

A replacement front pipe MUST be resonated as I'm not into driving a raspy fart can.

Since this is an unexpected expense, upon searching, an inexpensive overpipe landed in Canada ends up around $200. with tx and exchange. For an overpipe/ resonated front pipe combo the most reasonable 2.5" looks to be Agency Power (I have seen some bad feedback), ending up at about $535 landed here.

So, as this is an unanticipated additional expense and an overpipe alone (NOT from Agency) is considerably less $, is the front pipe going to make much difference??

Would really appreciate advice from people with first hand knowledge/experience.

Thx

A front pipe isn't going to add as much HP as a header but if you get a catless resonated front pipe you'll be removing the secondary cat and should be getting some more power without much more volume

So to answer your question, no its not necessary as you shouldn't have a problem getting an aftermarket overpipe to fit to the stock front pipe. If anything more aftermarket parts would impose potential for not fitting.

In summary it depends what your goals are, if you're looking for the most HP gains then yes I would get a front pipe but you can always get one down the road after you decide how your car performs/sounds after just the header and overpipe.

Who says you need an overpipe with the Revworks header?

Just installed mine, no leaks and it bolted up fine to the stock overpipe. Plenty of power, not too loud so far, and its easy to access if you need to tweak it.

If you REALLY think you need an overpipe/frontpipe, I was looking into an all-in-one unit with a resonator and cat... Only one seems to exist, and thats by Nameless.

Thanks for the input guys. I bought the header used and the seller never provided the Revworks provided gasket which they suggest using in addition to an OEM when using the stock overpipe.

Ended up ordering an overpipe without front pipe. Main reason, prefer not completely eliminating cats and ending up with smelly exhaust and want to first see how it sounds before reducing a cat or resonator.

Will use a new gasket included with the overpipe and some Permatex copper sealer and hopefully it will seal without further tinkering. Mating a 2.5 " header outlet to a 2.5" overpipe makes sense. Haven‘t heard of any issues using OEM front pipe on the forum. Swapping the front pipe doesn't appear to be a lot of HP for the cost if going resonated. My goal is to max out the power while staying NA and without getting into super costly engine internals. Too bad we don't have E85 here.

Long term future plans could be supercharger, but I'd probably want stickier tires and possibly coilovers/springs/dampers first. Better to have $ for my daughter's university in 1 1/2 years .

I've done extensive research on the over pipe and the front pipe as far as adding power after a catless header.. what I have found out is that replacing over pipe and/or the front pipe had little to no power change..unless of course you're going for a full blown race car..
