Question Exhaust diameter options/suggesions

I want to shut my wastegate up so i'll be ordering a new downpipe with recirculating wastegate tube. My current downpipe is flanged from 3-2.5" in order to fit my current exhaust setup. Now that i'll be getting a new downpipe should i opt for straight 3" through or leave 2.5 to work with my setup. The thing holding me back from getting a 3" downpipe is that i'll have to wait to replace my whole exhaust to 3" which is not cheap but then again it makes no sense to get the DP 2.5" because i'll still want to invest in a proper 2.5" exhaust not the q300 and tomei over pipe i have. I guess my question is for those who have upgraded from 2.5->3 is the difference in diameter that important for sub 400whp goals? Thanks

2.5" is not restrictive sub 400whp on most systems.. would want others to chime in but 3" is a requirement for laaarge setups.

That being said most FI guys want to go 3" TBE. My WRX is 3" TBE and still has a lot to go before warranting that diameter at 275whp tuned on the TD04

I guess deep in there i know that 3" is what i want and need eventually so i need to quit this "get it right now" attitude. If i had waited just a bit longer i would have gotten the 3" TBE instead of going with with header and full exhaust for three weeks then go turbo. I'll just do it right this time and get the 3" DP and take the abnoxious wastegate dump till i could save up for a full 3".

Just noticed you're a sponsor of the squadrogue troll team .. i volunteer there once in a while as well.

Throaty is what i want, i think thats how must turbo setups should sound. I have deep and muffled now lol. Cant blame it, i have a tomei OP which is 2.3" something.. and invidia q300 back at the end lol another 2.3" something. Poor thing that only helps is the 2.5 motive fp.

Thanks man, its running excellent. Getting a boost controlller today or tomorrow in the mail as to crank it up a bit but i could really live with the 8psi i'm getting now and with the crazy cold weather we're having down in miami its hard getting traction in the lower gears. Smile on my face all the time.
