Is it just me...or do black cars get clearcoat damage way more easily?
I had 2 white cars and 1 red car before, and none of them got clear coat damage. Hmm, idk. Maybe it's just that I've owned this black car for the longest time perhaps. |

With wraps they shouldn't be run through auto washes, although touchless you can get away with. I recommend hand washing. Never use a pressure washer close or close to edges. Depending on what type of material (mine is semi pearlescent, kind of a cross between matte and gloss) you use different soaps or cleaners. EX: Matte => non wax based soaps, rubbing alcohol, specialized matte vinyl cleaners Gloss => wax based soaps are fine, some you can use automotive waxes on as well. With mine I can go for either a "dry" look or a "wet" look. I like the "wet" look more. This meaning either more matte or more gloss. For this I actually used a vinyl restorer, which makes the wrap look a bit more glossy and helps protect it. Wrap's can last up to 7 years or more depending how you take care of it. I take pretty good care of mine and dont winter drive it. This will obviously prolong the life. Its common that people who have wrapped cars to wash their cars a few times a week as well to help with, if any, fading that can be caused. (road grime + water = acid) |

Rocks can damage it, sometimes take off a very small peice with it. You can clear bra most materials. Some materials are more resistant to rocks than others (thickness is biggest factor)
Plus side of wrap is that even if the wrap is damaged, in most cases the paint/car underneath is unscathed. Hood is the most common for rock damage and is then the easiest to replace if you choose to take that route. With bumpers I would clear them if its not a matte wrap. Mine i doubled up to try something a little different. |

Actually black paint just shows defects in a more pronounced way, where as white paint will hide them much more easily. Darker colored cars will also look dirtier faster than white will. I've been doing far too much paint inspection at my job recently, although the imperfections on my car bother me a little less now then before.
