Red stock tail lights - help?

I'm not too much of a fan any set of tails available right now to pull the trigger and buy a pair. What I'd really like is to have my stock pair colored red. I've seen the tutorial on the site but tis not my sort of project, I'm certain it wouldn't end up well.

Anyone have any experience making the switch or know of a place I can go to in order to have it done? Willing to pay and if I could watch that would be cool too.

Thanks.

I threw smoke nightshades on my tail lights. Its not too bad of a process. If nobody else can help you I can.

I don't like the nightshade personally. Comes out a bit dull and cloudy. I had mine done by a local guy but any paint shop can do it. It looks really good in a candy red. I'll post some pics when I head to lunch of mine

An auto body paint shop can do it. You can do the red yourself and have them clear it or they can do it all too. I've seen prices range from 150-200. Or ~100+ just for the clear

There is a guy named bluebatmobile that sells overlays too. Cheap, and quality looks ok, but it can be hard to install around the corners and might get damaged easily since it just a thin film.

Word, thank you all. I especially appreciate the price inclusion as well, wasn't sure how much this would run to have someone do them.

Do you need to open up the tails or is it all painted over from the outside? Absolute noob question I know.

I painted mine myself. Most auto parts stores sell tail light paint. I removed my tail lights, masked them, and gave them 4 or 5 coats of the red tail light paint. They really turned out nice.

^but are they shiny? or do they have a matte finish? If @sftateofmind is ok with a matte finish that might work. But to me it looks like a "spray can" without the clear coat.

It's all painted from the outside. There is no need to "break them open". Honestly, I was in the same boat as you and I smoked mine out with 2 light coats and the 3rd a little darker (wet sanding in between). I am really happy with it. Just wash, polish, and wax the tails every so often and you'll be good. Not dull, imo.

had mine done by the same guy as finch's but unfortunately I'm not sure if he does them anymore. Definitely recommend a red spray followed by a clear coat, the clear coat helps give you that OEM glossy look that most of us would want.

I had bought a set of vinyl wraps for the tails but backed out of it, was concerned after seeing others' cars that it would end up not looking quite perfect and a bit more dull looking than what you get if you spray & clear coat them.

This is in the shade so not super bright. This set also didn't get wet sanded so they could get smoother and a little more pop. But like Pmok said unfortunately the guy isn't doing it anymore. But any paint shop can get you squared away.
