Exhaust for 2015 Scion FR-S

I am looking to replace the stock FR-S exhaust with a slightly louder system - perhaps a Borla Touring Series or a Greddy SP Elite. I mention them because they seem to be not too loud. I don't want exhaust droning noise at highway speeds. Question: most of the web ads list fitment through 2014, not 2015. Is the exhaust the same for 2015? Any other suggestions for a nice gentle exhaust, but still sportier than stock? I am a little shocked at the high prices on these systems. The last replacement system I purchased 20 years ago was only a few 100's of $. Thanks for your help for a 71 year old car lover!

There won't be too much change in sound w/ just an axel-back or cat-back since the cats keep the sound down, but you can get a feel for the exhaust notes on the exhaust compilation thread.

you can get really cheap made in China exhausts that may or may not fit for rather cheap,. You can also get top of the line full Ti exhausts that fit like a dream and weight nearly nothing. Then there's all the options in-between.

$300 20yrs ago is the same as ~$600 now due to inflation.

=)

Also, FWIW, between the borla and GReddy, I'd go with the GReddy, and 2014/2015 are the same fitment.

Nameless Axleback 2.5 inch piping, 5 inch mufflers. No drone, really nice exhaust note, a good amount louder than stock but not obnoxious at all. It's handmade in the US and build quality is top notch. Many people are happy with it myself included.

I'd skip the Borla "touring" and go with the "S-type". Nice growl, but not much louder than stock at typical rpm's. They offer axle back, and cat back in an S-type.

I have the Perrin 3.0" resonated cat back. Between that or the 2.5" you can't get a much better sound, IMHO. No drone on the freeway, nice and quiet with normal driving but really opens up when you want. Price is decent but definitely a little more expensive than some other setups out there but the quality is second to none. Plus.....made in the good ol' USA.

I'd probably recommend the 2.5" for you though as it's a little quieter. Here's a thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54569

One thing to consider: although I have no conclusive proof or personal experience, some people have experienced a drop in MPGs when replacing the stock exhaust with a dual-canister type. Apparently if you remove the stock large single muffler, the rear bumper begins to act like a parachute.

There are some popular aftermarket exhausts that keep the same format as stock. The Perrin 2.5" and Invidia Q300 are both the large single-muffler type. They're both safe choices, and are known to be on the quiet side as well.

I'm a big fan of my MXP cat-back exhaust. No other exhaust mods (yet) and it just produces a nice deep rumble that you can hear but isn't a ton louder compared to stock.

You can also get them for $799 shipped from speedimageusa.com where I got mine.

A lot of people have said the mpg drop is negligible and could be caused by other factors although you are right about the drag issue a lot of track people have noticed the rear end behaving differently as well. I'd like to see a conclusive mpg test to prove dual vs single canister muffler drag effects
