Infinity Speaker setup??
Guys I working on an audio setup and I need your advice! I have 2014 BRZ with stock double din unit so heres my plan. I want to place the stock double din unit with a Kenwood Excelon DNX891HD.
Then as far as speakers are concerned I want to change the dash speakers with 4" Infinity Reference X Speaker but their mounting depth is 1 7/8 I don't know if they will fit so I dont know if i should go with the 3.5" Infinity Reference X with mounting depth of 1 7/16. Infinity 1 inch tweeter in the dash as well. The door speakers will get 6.5" Infinity Reference X Speaker with a mounting depth of 2-1/16". I going to swap the rear speakers with 4" Infinity Reference X Speaker with the mounting depth of 1 7/8. Last but not least going to add a box with two 12" Kappa Subs. My only concern is the dash speakers. Whats your opinion? 3.5 or 4 and will the fit?

3.5. This is almost exactly the setup I have. Are you planning on using a crossover for the doors / dash?

If you are going to amp.. I'd do something else. They sound great, but I had a bit of a time tuning them. The 3 ohm thing is really useful for getting a little extra out of a hu though, so if you are not amping I think that they are great. I will say that atm I am very pleased with them however. The 6.5 has response down to 53hz, I have mine crossed at 63 and they can shake my doors. I need to improve my sound deadening. Tbh though if I was doing from the beginning again.. I'd do an actual 4 ohm option. This
Is my first build so I learned a lot.

So if you could do it all over again what would you do exactly just out of curiosity. I was going to get a 4 way amp for the speakers and a mono amp for the subs. Point me in the right direction.

Below you will find rambling thoughts on the subject: as I have studied up on speakers, I have learned a lot actually.. for example a 3 ohm speakers may be rated as such because its 4 ohm at certain freq and 2 at others.. lending 'clarity' to infinity speakers. This is a large reason everyone calls them clear, they play certain freq higher than others.. but I digress. For speakers I honestly have not thought about what I'd do different If I could do again. I would have gone with a NEX hu though if I could do again, and have considered selling mine and going with the NEX.. or an excellon from alpine. For the Sub, I have had my eyes on the JL stealth box, but I have also been thinking of doing 2 of the integrityconcepts 10" boxes, and running dual 10s. right now I have a JL 10 run at 175w. its very precise, but it will not shake your beard hairs. this is difficult too. my current sub sounds very good and how I like to listen usually, however spending 300+ for an aftermarket sub alone I kinda want the option to have ground slamming base. I use a bass knob, which allows me to truncate signal, but I never actually use it as my current setup rarely gets enough that i'm thinking "I need less bass" I will say I recommend the ktp-445u for ease of use in this car given the stock amps power supply and location. I also would recommend 2nd skin audio for sound deadening product. I think if I was doing my dash again I would try the alpine 7" component set. The doors will support the giant speakers. or.. for the a lot of money JL has a set of 3 way comps that could be awesome </rambling>

Ok this is what I'm thinking right now after doing research
Headunit: Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX I did some research and turns out I like this one better and functions better without any lag. Dash Speakers:Rockford Fosgate P132 3.50" Punch 2-Way Full Range Speaker I did some research on the dash speakers and cant fit 4 inch speakers and 3.5 have to be shallow so I think these will just fit in there. These speakers cant be amped because they can't take enough power like many of the speakers for the dash so I'm going to let the headunit power these speakers. Door Speakers:Rockford Fosgate Power T1650-S 6.50" 2-Way Component System These should go in no problem and can be amped Rear Speakers: Rockford T142 4" 2-Way Full-Range Speaker These will be amped as well and should fit no problem Sound deadener: Im unsure what Im going to use yet but Ill keep you posted Subwoofers:Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12 12" Subwoofers Id be putting two in a custom box amped. Amp for the speakers: Rockford Fosgate R300X4 Prime 300 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier These will run the rear and door speakers Amp for the Subs:Rockford Fosgate R1200-1D Mono subwoofer amplifier — 1,200 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm I think this is pretty good setup let me know what you think or comments. |

I think you can safely skip the Rockford Fosgate P132 unless you get a custom 3way passive crossover.
as far as powering them, I have my infinity 3.5 powered at 45, even though it lists nominal at 25, and have no issues, but I don't send them any bass either.

Sounds like when you are all said and done you will have a similar price to the OEM Audio + CF Reference kit. How would you compare your gear to theirs? I'm just starting to research this stuff and am curious what my options are.

Try just adding a very good 4 ohm tweeterto the stock 3.5 mid that is already there. The stock wire is in itseries so will end up as two ohm and sound much better. you can add anything you want after that but listen to that first and you might be surprise.. Lots of sound deadening will improve stock doors and the feeble amp more than you might think. A good sub and a very good 4 ohm tweeter is a great bang for the buck start.
