Is there a prescribed way to take apart the console exterior?
Ugh, sorry for the poor thread title.
I've got something rattling underneath this panel here: ![]() I'd love nothing more than to take it apart and fasten whatever it is. Has anybody taken this off? Last edited by Jar; 01-29-2015 at 12:32 AM. |

Under that panel is a small trim piece. Pull outward (toward the door) on it, it is held in place with 5 trim clips. Next, remove the trim panel around the stereo. It also pops straight out, just use a plastic panel tool so that you don't marr it.
Next is loosening the center console. Remove rubber liner where cupholder goes and take out the two screws visible. Grab bottom of leather trim piece around ebrake and yank it straight up. That gives you access to the underside of the plastic trim ring around the shifter. Using a panel tool pop that piece up, unthread shift knob and pull the trim piece over the shifter (leather will stretch over reverse lockout lever). Remove two screws exposed by shift trim removal. Final two screws are accessed by pulling rearward on the trim panel with the start button. Once you have all six screws removed you can tug backwards on the center console and it will slide back a few inches. You now have access to the side panels. I think there is a screw up top behind the stereo surround (and maybe one down low?) After you remove those screws the panel comes out by yanking rearward. Sounds like a lot, but I can have it out in five minutes... |

Awesome. Thanks so much Toast, I'll give it a shot. If that doesn't work I'm going NWFRS' route!

I didn't explicitly say it, but you need to remove the trim panel from step 1 on both sides of the center console even if you are just removing the driver side knee pad.
