Smile Prices quoted at time of deposit.

I got a call today from a salesman at Le mans. Toyota deer park.. He asked if I would like to come in and have a chat about putting down a deposit. I asked him how much percent do employees get discounted.(since my father is an employee at the Altona plant). The answer was 'definately not for this car'. We proceeded to fill out forms for the 'non refundable $1000 deposit with a surcharge of $750 if i change my mind' deposit and he quoted me $39,000 drive away for a manual white GTS 86 including mats, tint and all extra charges (stamp duty, delivery, registration, white paint etc). I changed my mind and didn't go through with the deposit for now..

What do people think of this price? Do you think other dealerships can beat that?

Ps. The other salesman across the room whom i spoke with a week back called me shortly after I left and said that the price for the 86 has dropped down to $39,000 And that I should come in and put a deposit down lol

non refundable deposit?

is the contract subject to finance? afaik (at least for QLD) if it is and if you can't obtain finance and advise them the case, they have to refund deposit.

I didn't think they were allowed to do non refundable deposits (the contract is subject to a test drive and you approving the vehicle).

Whats your on road costs.

Car is only $35490rrp so that's $3510 for tint, mats and ORC doesnt seem right to me at all for an employee.

Yeah sounds a bit dodgy with 'no discounts for employees'
Is there anyone out there that actually put a deposit down and got quoted a price?

I don't think toyota employees can get their discount during the 1st 6 months of release ....

I got told 42,500 in march. Price now is 39,500 I think. Happy it was lower than quoted.

Judging by the price that I was quoted, that's pretty spot on for a manual GTS.

The non refundable deposit is total BS. You should be able to get your money back if your not happy with the drive. I would recommend that you put in any "Special Conditions" prior to signing the contract (eg. Not happy with drive) just so you have some leverage. Also on the Estimated Delivery Date make sure he puts the first day of the month in which you expect delivery - because the contract allows the dealer to add another 30 days (ie. if he puts down the last day of the month then you are still legally binded to purchase the car in the following month).

I forgot to mention that the 86 will be the first car that I will ever buy.. so all this dealership stuff is pretty daunting to me. So I've been seeking help/wisdom from many people.. so thanks a lot for the feedback so far guys, really appreciate it

off topic** anyone wishing the car came in yellow?

Actually u will get used to it. I have negotiated many deals for myself, family and friends. There are a few things to look out but generally it's exciting.

If there is factory yellow available id buy it over white. There is one special factory yellow in Japan.

today's experience was already very surreal and exciting for me! Just the thought of forms filled out under my name and my hard earned going towards this car that i have longed for really gets me going (mind you i was saving for an s15 silvia.. thought i'd wait instead for this car to arrive)

do you have a link for that factory yellow in japan? I agree with you, I'd pick yellow over white aswell
