Cruise Control causes "Thud"?

I was driving 115km on high way. I was hard on cruise and held the cruise knob in the upper position for 2/3 seconds trying to get the car to 120km. 1st second no speed increase, 2nd second no speed increase then on the 3rd second “thud" ... and my car still did not increase to 120km after 3s of lever pressing. It felt as if the automatic transmission messed up or skipped a gear...

Anyone had similar experience?

Never had that happen before, I use cruise control al the time for boring highway driving too. What kind of thud? I'm trying to picture what it could be. Something with the electronic throttle possibly?

Was it an audible thud or just a felt thud?

Strong thud or slight?

A slight thud when taking your finger off the upper position is normal.

What Wise is talking about is normal. Not usually very noticable in these cars, when hard on the cruise control theres a tiny bit of engine braking just while everything settles, would'nt describe it as an audible "thud" though

With autos it'll sometimes go back a gear as you hit the cruise paddle, no different to normal acceleration...then it'll slide back into top gear once your off the paddle and it settles, it's possible that it's gone back a gear at about the same time as you've let go of the paddle, which is very normal. It will feel like it's skipped a gear as you described. Autos are very weird creatures under cruise control

assuming you do have an auto lol

Yeah, one of the reasons I got a manual. That moment when you wanna get hard on the throttle, you put your foot down and nothing lol

This definitely happened to me. I was in cruise control and tried to accelerate, my rpms jumped all over the place. Haven't tried using cruise control since. None of my other cars ever did this in cruise control. Seems a bit off. I'm scheduled for a maintenance check soon. I was going to ask the dealer to take a look since my cars still under warranty

Better get it checked yes! I can do my whole 2 hour commute without touching the gas pedal once when I hit the highway. Cruise is smooth and responsive as I have ever had.

Sorry just realized you are AT and I am MT so not comparing apples to apples!

The only thing that I might characterize as any sort of thud is the transmission kicking down a gear or two on steeper inclines or if I resumed the cruise at a speed way below the set point. If it isn't these things, then get your car checked.
