Any Military member stationed in Japan?

**Admin please move if in the wrong section**

Hey guys! Was wondering if there are any military members that are currently or was stationed in Japan?

I'll be moving to Japan soon (Atsugi) and I have the option to ship my BRZ there and was wondering how expensive is it to get it registered? I didn't want to leave it in storage or in my mom's place for 3 years. Thanks in advance for the help!

Sell it its better that to have it in storage for three years and have it depreciate like crazy! And use the money to buy something in Japan that you can never own in the US like a Skyline, Chaser or Mark II.

That's another option in considering but I just wanted to see how much is it to get it on the road there and how much of a hassle it is. I do plan in buying an older car there that I can easily ship back to the states also if I don't get to bring my BRZ or store or sell it.

I am truly jealous.. It is my dream to live in Japan someday but the language barrier is keeping me away. How difficult is it to get stationed in Japan if you join the military? I thought about going that route but I didnt want to sign up and then get shipped somewhere that I really dont want to go.

As for advice I am on the selling it side of the fence. I would take that money and buy the cleanest AE86 Panda that I could find and then die of happiness

If you decide to join Navy (or another branch) to get stationed in Japan, Make sure you stay SINGLE. Your chances of getting over there is extremely higher. I had a spouse and a child and they did not want to spend the money to ship my family over so they denied me every time I asked for Japan

Joining the military to try to get to a specific place is a bad, bad idea! You can, and will, end up just about anyplace except where you wanted to go.
You can also end up dead or maimed of course.

Not long ago I watched a news special where they interviewed some Afghanistan vets. This one guy said (I am not shitting you here) "I only joined the Army to travel and never expected to be shot at. They should give everybody the option to not go to areas where they are in danger" Needless to say the interviewer ripped him a new one!

your car isn't coming to japan so don't waste any energy continuing that thought process. as others have recommended it is probably best to sell and re-invest once you get settled over there.

i am military who has worked and lived in japan for many years. pm me for questions.

good luck.
