Does the headunit play m3u playlists from USB?
If I have a USB stick with mp3s and create m3u playlists on it will it play?

Why don't you just try it? I'm not sure about the HU in the BRZ, but the 2015 BeSpoke Premium Audio manual for the FR-S states that M3U playlists are not compatible with the audio system.
