Ive been thinking about one of these a good bit lately.

Not to replace the frs (herefore referred to as penismobile). That will be kept for autox/track.

The sticker on them is silly high. But looking at autotrader (2-4k mile certifieds listed @37-8k), and factoring the signifigantly improved 2015 model (mag ride, manual, rear brembos, att hotspot), the season being winter here and how many are on lots locally (many for a low production holdover) i was betting a hell of a deal can be swung on a 14.

Stopped in local dealer with 4 collectjng dust yesterday. The salesman immediately dropped to 37k with roughly 0 effort on my part.

Way overpriced anywhere near sticker, but Im thinking 34-35 should be doable with some effort.

Would make for a hell of a dd (not racecar) especially with cheap gas. On the downside it would result in the eventual sale of my modded forester xt, on the upside the penismobile could be retired from dd use and gone more race car.


Hell a clean g8 gxp still goes for 25-30 ish. Used to have an ls2 gto, ditched it when gas priced spiked to the moon. Still miss the car, theres a lot of appeal in a boat with a v8.

Thoughts?

definitely get a 2015 if you get one. the 14s don't come in manual :P

I like them, its a nice ride and a very nice performer for a large sedan.

For its purpose i dont mind the automatic, and mag ride to me just seems like more to break/more expensive repairs down the road.

Have 4 manuals here atm: penismobile, fxt, mk7 gti (gfmobile), and a c5 vette.

One automatic besides the work truck wouldnt be a bad thing.

I think you'll track it once and go nuts on the penismobile to make it compete.

I'll never forget my first HPDE, watching an SS pull a dozen car lengths on me in the straight and spending the next 5 turns getting back on his bumper to repeat for the next two laps before he let me by, definitely a nifty car and with some more seat time I'm sure the owner would obliterate my little stock Toyobaru, and Chevy has done a good job at giving the middle finger to Europe with a cheap coupe, a cheap sedan and a cheap super car that competes for tens of thousands of dollars less in each category (on paper anyway).

Only advice is GM build quality: I've never seen a GM product that hasn't lost at least one door handle within 10 years of production, usually close to 5 years, not to mention each model's unique weak points.

It's a really cool car, but exactly the same way the GTO was a cool car, imported and marketed in exactly the same way. I was about to take a shot at the GTO's resale figures but I can't find one for less than $15k sooo maybe not such a bad prospect after all...

Already went nuts on the penismobile its blown and has all the other goodies. Its at a point now where much further and ddability goes out the window. In a way the ss would open the window to go full retard on the penismobile as it depreciates further.

Totally agree on gm build quality, the c5 is a low mile inherited car(<40k mile). Both seats had issues, random interior bits, missing, hvac display backlight broken, etc etc. The build quality on the gto i had was leagues better... man i wish i didn't ditch it.

That said the sleeper aspect is a huge appeal to the ss given my needs.

The gto has held pretty solid resale, the g8 gxp incredible resale, and the g8 gt has held up very good as well. They've really held up so well all things considered that an ss for 10k+ off becomes just about a no brainer.

Maybe the Aussie stuff truly holds up better than the American stuff, an SS for $35k sounds like a great sedan for someone looking for tire burning fun in a car you could take your co-workers out to lunch in and they wouldn't mention your car once because it's just a chevy sedan.

Gas is cheap now, but where do you think it will be 5 years from now? I'd rather have a 2015 wrx than an auto SS. And it would be 8k cheaper, and better in the winter.

Valid points.

1) gas: not really concerned about gas in 5 years to be honest, looking out that far in the future i'm more concerned with the disappearance of the traditional v8 with hybrid/electric etc, we're really at a golden age at the moment the current gas price levels are just icing on the cake. Just look at whats going on with the australian platforms in general, the falcon iirc is in its last year of production and the holden factory is shutting down in 2017(?). Days are numbered for this sort of platform with the german sedans having moved toward lower displacement and fi (new m3 for example).

2) Wrx: It would be redundant, the forester is vf39, full boltons, sti rack, brembos, suspension, geometry change, sti seats, etc. Was bought as a beat into the ground pile cheap and has been a project for about 5 years. Its really only lacking an sti transmission/diff and some rough edges to be corrected. That said, I just don't have fun driving it. I'm far more fond of rwd, including in winter on good tires. Not saying awd isn't better, I just enjoy rwd significantly more.

The worst part of everything is that the forester would become the odd duck out and selling it means an ass raping.

A work truck is necessary, the penismobile is going nowhere as a toy, gfmobile is necessary for her work and the back half is kept covered up for dogs, for the 4k invested the c5 can't be touched in terms of shutting the gf up about having brought the penismobile home without telling her instead of the convertible we had discussed and she had green lighted.

At this point I'm into my 30s and the house is paid off, a garage and driveway of nothing but hopped up econoboxes and coupes isn't really ideal, especially when kids start rolling around.

Bmw/Mercedes/Cadilliac/pcar sadly dont work for me because of the brand image perceived by the people I handle (low income tenants), and to be honest I'm too much of a cheap prick to buy a car at 60k+ to see 5k+ a year depreciation.

If I'm correct, the Magnetic shocks which are an option, are a must on this car. They were on the C7...so I'd assume so for this as well. I wouldn't be afraid of repairing. There will be aftermarket shocks that will be good enough to replace the super fancy ones if they do fail.

I adore the SS, it's a great looking kit with those front fender bulging out. I'd look into an exhaust, even though the OEM sport exhaust is good enough...

I do know of that transmission they put in this car. It's not as good as the regular ZF 8 speed you'd get in the German competition, but it'll get the job done. Might wanna test drive it before you rule out the stick.

Only options on 14' are sunroof and spare tire. every one ive seen listed has the sunroof. Kinda like the vw "options" that the dealer orders with every car.

That makes sense. Though the '15 model year does have some awesome colors...

I'm picky when it comes to cars. But if you can drop it down to a good price, then go for it. Auto or stick, those cars still have good reviews and a great powertrain.

I've never chosen the color of a car yet.
finding the deal always took precedence over color.

Turns out after searching vins that at the dealer with 4, 3 are between 230-270 days on lot, the other is over 390.

Offered 34 on the 390 day car. They'll tell me to stick it. It will hit 500+ days on lot.
