Custom headers

Here's some progress shots from yesterdays work.

First we had to decide on where the collector was going. We already had Kelfords calculate all the header specifics (like primary lengths, sizes, collector and expansion details). Started on the steering column side. Could either put collector before or after column. Putting after it meant the 4 runners would have to pass by the column (which while tight, was possible) but we decided to place the collector before the column for a couple of reasons.

Once we had the collector positioned, we tacked it to the flange and then we had our jig. We then cut up some rubber pipe insulation to the lengths kelford recommended and started playing with designs. We put welding wire inside the rubber pipes so that it would take any shape we wanted.

We tried a few different combinations. Trying to find the one that resulted in the least amount of tight bends. The tightest bends we'll be using are 75mm centre line radius bends, and we'll only need a few of those. A lot of the headers will be made using 125mm centreline radius.

Just about to start cutting and tacking so will have some more pics in 6 hours or so. Hopefully get this one sorted today if don't get too many distractions.
