IPhone 6 Data draining

anyone else have this problem?
I got it end of November and got on a plan with 3 GB
My data got used up quickly and a quick google search told me to turn off the Background App Refresh, which i did.
Now i'm 9 days in to December and i just got a message saying i used up 75% of the data.

wtf?

any other suggestions?

Do you have it set to use WiFi hotspots when available? If not, that could be a big part of the issue. Are you streaming a lot of videos and music? I have a 5C and my plan is a paltry 500GB, I have to be very careful what I do, but I survive because I make sure to use WiFi when browsing or downloading stuff.

yeah i have wifi at home and at work (although i just recently starting using the work one).
but when i had 2 GB with my iphone 4 i only went over 2 GB once in 2 years.

so i have no idea. i turned off a bunch of the obvious data usage ones, but i'm wondering if there's something i'm missing

Well, something isn't adding up. Unless you were streaming a lot of music/videos/etc you shouldn't be blowing through 3 gigs. My plan used to be 2 gigs and I never got close to exceeding that. Now, my 500 MB plan does suck...

i have no idea, i'm gonna check on it once in awhile in the nexr couple of days.

no way i can burn through over 2000 MB in 9 days, especially when i'm on wifi a lot of the time

Could be you downloaded some data in the background, like Spotify for example where they let you download a playlist for use offline.

Or you downloaded/updated your apps using cellular data.

There's a huge difference between the 3G you were using before and LTE, since you're able to consume content so much more quickly you're going to be using more data.

I find that when I first get a new phone I crush my data for the first month or two while I'm trying new things and downloading new apps, then it usually goes back to normal.

Anything you used before for streaming, spotify, youtube and stuff like that will use a higher quality stream since you have more bandwidth available. Same goes for things like facetime or automatic uploads of (now higher quality) pics to instagram and apps like that.

Also check "automatic update" in your app store, if that's enabled it could be updating apps without you knowing over cellular.

My droid phone has a data usage app that tells you exactly what app is using what amount of data.
I would be surprised to hear the iPhone does not have a similar app.

iMessage and Siri both use data as well. If you're sending a bunch of pictures that may be the culprit. This is exactly why I stuck with T-Mobile. I'll deal with the spotty service as long as I never have to worry about my data usage. Not to mention I'm always around the city so coverage isn't an issue.

hm, that could be it. a Chris Harris video here and there probably drained the crap out of it, where as it didn't when i had 3G

f0rge makes some great points and I didn't even think about the LTE vs 3G thing. In fact, because my data plan is so small right now, I actually turned my LTE ability off per the recommendation of Verizon so I'm using 3G instead of LTE intentionally. And yes, turn off automatic upload/update feature immediately if you haven't done so. Mine is set to only update when I'm in a WiFi spot.

Exactly and I plan on switching to T-Mobile when I can. Right now my dad is on my account so to big of a pain to try and switch carriers.

In most cases for me, its things like auto syncing or apps that check every few minutes (email). For me what I generally do, is turn off data unless I want to use it.

Don't recall if iPhone can do this but androids can check the data consumption of each app. That would help lots
