Body Shop told me that headlights are on backorder?

it seems kinda strange, its been 20 days since its been in the shop. I recently got into a car accident, and i took it in for repair. I been there before, its good quality work, and they take off my deducible. So i asked them today and they said that its still in repair because they haven't received the headlights yet because its on backorder. I am in nor cal, the car is around South SF, I just wanna ask if that's normal or not. I asked for jdm headlights. They suggest that I dont get after market parts and that i dont get it done(blackout) because it might lead to leaks and whatnot. I said ok, you take care of it for me. I have about 9 days before my insurance stop covering my rental car. so should I just ask them to get regular headlights?

I know im not a good talker, so in other words,
1. is it normal or real that its really in backorder? either of the headlights assuming they get it from scion.
2. should i just roll with regular non-mono/ser10/rs1.0/jdm headlights and call it a day? unless thats in backorder too.

thanks for taking your time to read it and replying me.

Did your car originally come with JDM headlights?

I don't think they're on back order, it could be that the bodyshop is having a hard time getting them.

Also, how are you going to wire them? The wiring is different...

They ordered it for a different customers before they said, and they said it would need rewiring to be done. I left it to them as they are pretty good at their work. In the shop I'm probably one of the few japanese cars. Everything inside is like fararri, is350 f sports, ranging from 335i-M5, C63 and above.

I would assume them to know their stuff as they are filled with cars waiting to be fixed.

The insurance will only cover you until the car is repaired. If you decided to add/change parts and it takes longer then it is on you and your pocketbook for the rental.

If the parts are on backorder and you cannot wait, then there is always the option of getting the regular stock lights or aftermarket lights.

Here is a link to a reputable forum vendor with different aftermarket headlight options: http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/exte...6/index-2.html

personally black D-spec all the way!

Body Shop told me that headlights are on backorder?

I understand the insurance will only cover repair parts but since my headlight broke in the accident, they need to be replaced and the shop are getting jdm headlights for me with no charge and they are paying for my deductible

The shop is owned by my friend's friend.

Just that the worker told me that it's on back order. It just sounded weird to me

It's surprising to see how there are so little alternative headlights to choose from for the 86

They will not pay more than the stock light is worth.

I know they would not, but like I said the shop is a shop I'm know, they can claim insurance a bit higher to pay for the headlights

OEM FRS parts from Toyota/Scion are on backorder in NorCal for some reason. One member still haven't gotten his passenger headlight (still running the old one w/ broken tabs after accident) and its been about a month or two. Took me about a month for a part to come in for me for an OEM replacement. If you are looking for the JDM/10 Series/Monogram series headlights, they are going to just take as long as a regular one.

Thanks for your confirmation, it is a relief to know that I'm not the only one. It seems kinda strange for parts for such a new car to be back ordering.

Now I have a second problem came up, as all insurance only covers 30 days rental. I am probably gonna have to return the rental car and be carless for a month regardless of whatever light I get.

The parts are back ordered because they have to ship the part from Japan over by boat from what my coworker tells me at parts dept. Not sure how long it would take for yours since mine was a small part. As for the rental, not sure what you can do with the insurance since you may be going to be out of the car ~1+ months. What you should do is probably buy a set of used regular headlights ( repinning is needed if you had mono/10/rs headlights and it won't cost you more than 150-200 for a set) and run it for now until your new headlights come. Then resell the used set afterwards so you won't be losing much. If anything you'll lose and gain nothing.
