Fuel "economy" in hpde

So apparently i forgot to check my fuel level before my last run of the day. I wasn't thinking about it because i topped off after my first session and I usually see 1/4 tank consumption per session.

Long story short i went from full to red line empty in 92 miles. ~11 gallons to fill. Lost half the session because of my mistake, at least didnt stall on track ^_^

Made me curious what others are seeing? Especially anyone with increased power / tune. My car is stock with 225/45 re11a tires

I usually get better mileage than that during a track day.

I'll typically get about 220km on a tank. What I usually do is fill up after the morning session during the lunch break so that by the end of the day I have somewhere between half and a quarter tank left.

I'm stock except for tires and an OFT tune.

Since getting NT01 tires I think I am getting around 7-9 Mpg, was getting closer to 11 before. I used to use about a 1/4 of a tank per session, now it is closer to 1/3rd.

Usually 10-11 mpg (1/4 tank per 20 min session) both stock and OFT stage 1. I've upgraded to OFT stage 2, but haven't tracked yet on this setup.

Try not to let your fuel drop below 1/4 tank. Wouldn't want to have fuel starvation, especially with how sensitive our cars are to detonation.

I average about 18L/100km's on the DDT at CTMP, including driving to/from the track (filling up in Brooklin, ~30km's from the track). Shannonville I get slightly worse mileage. Haven't been on the GP track yet, but I imagine it'll be even worse.

My last session at Mosport's big track was a full tank in the a.m session and another for the afternoon.

What hurt was that I used the last of my race gas in the a.m and paid Mosport prices for their hi-octane for the second half - ouch !

I've done that at Mosport - highest race gas prices I've ever paid. For that track, though, totally worth it - for accessibility to the widest audience, it's a crying shame that Mosport is not somewhere down around Scranton, PA.

In my E36 M3 race car, I typically average 5.2 - 5.6 MPG depending upon the track. The car is reliable enough in that regard that for TTs, I estimate 5.0 MPG.

What would make this data more interesting would be to see it correlated with percentage of time spent at WOT. There's often a wide range for that factor, and it might shed some useful light on the subject of MPG.

Good point.

My data is from Calabogie which has 20 turns, so there is a significant amount of time where you aren't at WOT. At least I'm not.

Runnin the Gran Prix track with my FRS was just like being on that track on a motorcycle, like I used to do there many years ago.

For me, the FRS is the closest thing to an extension of the body (like a motorcycle) of any car I know.
The Mosport Formula One track is the best track to experience the feeling because of the very high speed corners (I was well over 100 M.P.H. around many of the corners and stable as a rock).
The twisties after Moss corner is where our cars trounce the competition! (except for that one damn Supercharged Elise -)

If you get back up this way again, check out the new DDT track at Mosport, its been repaved and redesigned.
A technical track with nice elevation changes, a couple of minor "OH SH1T !" off camber corners, and a straight that is short enough to castrate the 300 m.p.h. supercars !
Members of our group have beaten Porsches, Ferrarri's, Vipers, NSX's etc. because most Ontario tracks have short straightaways.

On the DDT mileage figures were better, because there are less occasions to just keep the pedal all the way to the floor and leave it there.

I do admit though - the Gran Prix track is my favorite track, but it makes me want a 250 mph FRS !

Nobody is WOT a significant percentage of the time there - that's a busy little track except for the four or five stretches where you're flat for more than a few seconds. Calabogie is a very nice handling track.

1) You've lost me there. I think of the track from the exit of Moss Corner to the flag station at the top of the hill as the purest horsepower stretch of track in this part of the continent. With little steering input required, it steadily rises 130' over about 6/10s of a mile, and rewards power over everything else. Is that the part of the track you're referring to?

2) Did you mean a 250 RWHP FR-S, or do you really want a 250 MPH FR-S - if it's the latter, please put me on the list for a ride!

That seems remarkably low for this car, especially stock. To what do you attribute that - e.g., a track where you're WOT 90% or more of each lap?

Currently, we can do around 25 miles or so before fuel starvation becomes a significant risk.

250 MPH ! YUM ! ( I wish ) .

Yep you are correct in the description of Moss corner, I usually catch up to and nip at the heels of the supercars between 3 and 4. The beginning of Moss; 5a, and 5b is where our cars blow the doors off others (xeptin an Elise with turbo) which definitely outcorners my car.
Very frustrating on a track day because the supercars don't get flagged for not allowing the faster cars by, and you are always playing caboose while knowing you can take the others on corners.
