StopTech ST40 - Inputs welcomed

I've got the opportunity to pick up a used pair of the StopTech ST40s (332/32 Rotor) for the same price as the equivalent STI Brembos here in Aust.

I'm looking for input from the brake knowledgeable on:

1. Balance front to rear with standard rear calipers
2. Performance vs. STI Brembos (Front only)
3. Gotchas, anything else.
4. Ongoing cost vs. Brembos.

In my example a set of used STI Brembos (front only in 5x100) are going to cost me around AU1200 - looking at this as an alternative and whether it's realistic.

1. Is the Stoptech ST40 BBK specific to the FRS/BRZ/GT86 braking system? If so, the BBK should be capable of maintaining factory brake balance. Another question to ask is if you can handle some oversteer without issue.

2. STI Brembos aren't much of an upgrade, but they do help with providing even pressure on the brake pad and additional mass for sinking the heat.

3. You're still going to have to use track brake pads on large tracks. Your best bet is to get a temperature probe and some temperature paint to find out what temps you're getting your system up to.

4. Stoptech BBK will have a lower overall cost vs. the STI Brembos. This is a long term estimate.

I have the 328mm ST40 front kit and absolutely love it, the best money I have spent on the car. I too thought the balance could be off but I couldn't have been more wrong, its spot on. The only upgrades on the rear are matching pads and stainless lines.

I also had a STI before my brz and the stoptech kit feels much better even being just the front. Just holding the st40 in my hand the quality is obvious compared to the sti caliper.

I ran these on my WRX and I loved them! I'm pretty sure these handle heat better as well as these are lighter than the STi Brembo's so with the current sale at AZP Installs I'm very tempted to put them on the BRZ.

Do it!

We are currently running the ST-40 setup on our Spec86 Cup car and our Project BRZ for track and street use. The ST-40 caliper as Mike elluded to will cost less in overall long term because the ST-40 calipers are very common and there are LOTS of pad choices. Additionally in Pirelli World Challenge TCA class the only alternative to the OEM brakes are the ST-40 Calipers.

Right now we have a huge sale on these units. $1795 Installed!
