Toyota FT-86 transmission is this it?
I've been holding this pic for few days now, i wanted to authenticate before posting if its real or BS but cant find anything on it so I'll post maybe someone can shine a truth on it. Got it from a person in facebook who send me a msg after giving a like vote on my ae86, then he send me a PM telling me that I have a nice trueno & , I say thanks and asked him if he has one also? He replied no in his country its rare but his planning to get the FT86 when it goes on sale, he asked me if I'm planning to get the FT86? I replied yes cant wait, he replied I worked on the FT86 well just the drivetrain. At this point i was calling BS so he send me pics of a transmission that has a FT86 writen on it, I say any person can write a FT86 on a transmission so i started looking for a similar look or type of a tranny but came short. So if anyone can authenticate this, but im about to think its real.

I have no idea about this tranny, but Aisin Ai means the tranny is MT. Aisin Ai is probably working with Toyota R&D in Japan. I also wonder if anyone can identify this transmission. Anyway, thank 4agze.

They need to revive "Unsolved Mysteries" for this thread. Wow! That's very coincidental if it's true.

If what he said was true I doubt he'll enlighten us because I'm sure it would result in him losing his job. He's probably done enough to lose it anyway with that picture.

Maybe He was convinced to do that by Toyota. Who knows? Maybe it's Toyota's strategy to keep fan interested in the car.

If you want some guesses on the gear ratios, probably close to S2k specs. A tall first gear of 3.1xx(like a 5spd) with close ratios all the way to 6th with .8xx. The Mazda variants of the Aisin AZ6 have 3.76-3.84 first gears. Unless he worked specifically on the gearing he might not know the ratios for the transmission or the final axle gearing. Just a thought but I wouldn't want to see him get fired for sharing info. And

I'm skeptic, I don't buy it, but if it really is, Kudos to both of you and it makes me happy that the FT-86 is progressing and likely closer than we think.

You can at least tell its RWD only. I'm not a subaru guy, so if someone could try to take a better look at the bell housing and see if its somewhat close to the pattern for a boxer engine, then well have RWD + boxer =
hehe

It will have the new Gen boxer motor so bell housing mite be different? Mind you it maybe the same as the EZ36 and diesel.
They are slowly changing stuff so all the gear boxes etc that used to fit into all of the EJ stuff wont be able to fit. Like the New 6 speed that is based on the 5speed fitted in the new shape legacys. They have changed the mounts. Will not fit into the older models. The Impreza STI still runs the Bullet proof 6 Speed in it that can still be fitted to different models. |

the Bell housing is likely to be slightly different. It has the shape similar to the top of Subaru's bell housings, but the bottom is missing the awd bits that are right at the front of the tranny.
Com to think about it, the output in the rear seems to be high up relative to the top of the bell housing, like it would be for an engine that is mounted very low in the chassis. |

RWD Only = Check
looks like its made for low mounted engine = check Aisin Manual Trans = CHECK hmm, I'm almost sold, but I like where this is going so far, now only if we could get some pictures of our beloved's underbody for comparison |
