Coated the car with Optimum Gloss-Coat
I haven't used Opticoat, so I'll just give my impressions.
Supposedly Gloss-coat should last about 2 years. I coated the trunk and hood 1 month ago. When it comes to "touchless washes".. those were the only two panels to come really clean. But, those never get too dirty anyway, so I finally buffed and finished the car today. 1. Super easy to apply. Few dabs on the buff pad, and wipe. A little goes a long way. As soon as it feels dry, redab and keep going. Use a microfiber 2 minutes later if there's any streaks. 2. It "shines up" way better than I thought. On my perfectly polished panels.. of course it didn't change much. But it really performed like a wax on my weathered front bumper. It looks a ton better, I would love if it stayed like that. It reduced the scratches under the door handles to about 50% without polishing those out. 3. No comment on durability. 4. I used 1/2 the syringe and coated the entire car along with the door sills. I've read lots of reviews how there's not enough product in the syringe. I think most people put it on too heavy and waste product. A Ford Explorer would probably be the limit size. 5. It's versatile. I used it on the rear valence and front bumper black piece. It darkens and protects. Perfect. My pictures suck, since garage: ![]() ![]() I'll follow up in the winter when salt arrives. On a side note, it's amazing how much dirt you can pull from your car even after cleaning twice. ![]() Anyone else use Gloss Coat? Last edited by kberkel; 10-25-2014 at 02:51 AM. |

I haven't tried it yet, but have used Opticoat multiple times. Did you get any high spots or did it self level relatively well? What was your prep process; IPA, Eraser, Hyper Polish, etc...?
Either way looks great. I don't know if people are layering Gloss-coat similar to pairing Opti-Coat but covering just the paint I could used only about 6-7 cc's of Opticoat. Let us know how it is after it's first wash. |
