New at this, Help please.

Hey guys, Im new to the whole, wheel fitment thing. I Want to get some wider wheels for my car, for more grip. Found some 18x9.5 +38 for sale locally, at a really good price. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to research, and low and behold, lots of conflicting info on here in terms of will it work or not. In terms of use, The car is for track/auto-x, and backroad driving. Stance is not my thing, so I do not want to go full hovercraft with camber here. So, question is, Will wheels with these measurements work with stock ride height and springs. By working, I mean, will there be any rubbing during hard cornering, any limitation on turning, etc. Again, I am only asking because after looking at the various 18x9.5 +38 threads, I did not find a consistent answer.

Thanks for any and all help!

Edit: In regards to your question, you will receive just as many mixed answers as there are wheel/tire size combos for this car because every person uses their car differently. For a track and autox car I'm personally wondering why you want to go that aggressive of a wheel size and width at all. If you're not going to modify the car heavily for power gains then weight is a very important characteristic of the car for track and autox. With how much "power" our cars put out stock a 18x9.5 wheel isn't exactly ideal.

it will kick you out of STX if you really care about Auto-X but it sounds like you want to do it and not care about class

-STX is a Street Tire Class.. so your tires have a minimum of 140 treadwear, and they can be no wider than a 265 on a 9in wheel.

I don't know much but that don't really sound like it would work. It's also gonna make ur car higher then stock. Right?

It will be a very tight fit. You will likely need to adjust camber to fit it under your car, and will possibly need to roll your fenders to clear your tires. For track, a 17 is more than sufficient. For autoX, the wheel size alone will bump you way up in classes. Practically, that's a lot of wheel and a lot of tire; it will be heavier than stock and slow you down.

The wheel won't make the car higher, that's dependent on tire size. If you make sure to keep the tire diameter close to stock, it'll be fine in that regard.

Thanks for the responses guys. The only reason I asked was because there was a good deal locally, but after reading up more, I don't think I'll be going that wide. I do plan on going more power eventually, running e85+intake+exhaust is fine for now, but I feel the forced induction winds a blowin soon haha. Appreciate the input in terms of auto-x. I don't go for competitive times, just for fun, and I want more grip for more fun. However, Bumping that high up in classes is worrisome.

Thanks again for the responses, and sorry for what may have been a noobie post, this is just my first foray into the wheel fitment arena, and the conflicting answers on the other threads threw me for a loop.
