Thrust/pillowball mount bearing clunk while steering

Creaking noise from suspension whilst turning the steering wheel. My ball joints look good. My end links are but 10,000 miles old. ISC coilovers about 10,000 miles old. Suspend the car to get in the wheel well to take a better look, now there's no load on the wheels to replicate the noise. I've lubed all the bushings, even sprayed lube all over the spring perches.

Saw the factory strut braces were someone elses problem. Torqued down, noise persists. It's gradually getting worse and it's embarrassing to be honest. It's to the point where you can hear it from a decent distance away with the engine running and I get looks like my car is a POS.

recorded here:

Ideas? I'm going to pull it into our back bay at work tonight and have a go at it again. I'm fed up with it.

Sounds like a spring to me. Either it's not seated right or it broke. Probably broke since you had them coil overs on for a little while.

yeah I don't think a spring going bad after 10k is really going to happen. I'll have to contact ISC, these should still be under warranty. I'll pull my left strut out at work and see if it is the bearings.

Turns out it was the pillowball mount bearings. They were FILTHY dirty. The race is scored up pretty decent. I cleaned and regreased with aircraft wheel bearing grease - I'm airforce and happen to work in a shop where we work on landing gear and flight controls, and as a side job we do wheel and tire shop too. So we clean and repack bearings when they come up as well as build up the wheel and tire assembly.

I'm going to try and persue ISC for some new race's and bearings under warranty, so wish me luck. They've been helpful so far.

I ended up solving my issue. I was running the end links that came with my coils. The endinks gave up during winter. I figured this out by taking out the end links and testing to see if the bolt was moving at all. And it wasn't. So I put in some lithium grease, worked for 2 weeks and then other end links started giving the same issue so I just got fed up and went back to stock end links. If u can't go to stock end links just buy whiteline end links or something.

.... I drove the car out of the garage this morning and heard the noise when turning but while driving in the rain, after several mins it went away.... what is the deal... is it by endlinks or pillowball mounts. I will jack the car up later to inspect. was is happening to you?

Did both of your creaking finally stop after replacing the endlinks?

My car is still stock everything but I have the exact sound as the video. I took it in to the dealer to have a look and all they could suggest was their $300 brake service to fix it.. so no to that.

I'll check the endlinks this weekend myself, but any advice?

Yes I did fix it. It was the end link. You can buy oem end links from Toyota/Subaru for like $30

I'm currently running white line adjustable end links. No issues at all.

If the noise is exactly as in the video, must be the end links. Take the end link out and see if the bolt moves freely, if it's stuck and doesn't move freely, the grease most likely dried up/came out of the rubber. You can try to put the grease inside and see if it does anything.
