OFH + Perrin 2.5 CBE

I just recently installed a Perrin 2.5 inch resonated CBE that I had sitting in my basement for a few months, which I got for a steal on black friday. I installed an OFH a couple of months ago and was pretty satisfied with the sound. However, because I already had the exhaust which I didn't install (due to laziness) I decided that this would be a good weekend to put it on.

My first impressions are...it seems loud. I'm pretty new to the car modding world, so I haven't installed an aftermarket exhaust on any of my previous cars. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to that sound, or if it really is as loud as I think it may be. I always hate seeing/hearing riced out Hondas with huge exhausts rolling around the streets, so I'm sincerely hoping that I'm not "that guy" now.

I would appreciate some feedback from other OFH guys who have an aftermarket CBE to see if it is actually loud to the outside world (comparatively), or if it's just me not being used to it.

The OFH, I'm assuming, does not have a cat?

In that case, you ARE "that guy" now. If you don't like loud exhausts, why did you get one? You could run a catted header w/ stock everything else and you'd be fine w/ the power gains on a tune.

It's all about personal taste and perspective. If YOU think it's loud, then that's all that matters. Does it matter what other people think about your exhaust note? If YOU don't like it, or it annoys YOU, then there's a problem isn't there?

You could always have a friend drive the car around the block while you're outside observing.

Except he still has a cat...on his front pipe.

So? It'll still be louder than with two cats. It'll still be louder than stock, and exhaust note is a matter of personal taste.

If you're looking for an outsider's perspective, my wife has no interest in cars and already thinks I'm "that guy" with just a Perrin non-resonated CBE. She says she can clearly hear my car from inside the house and is pretty sure I wake up or at least annoy my townhome neighbors when I go to work.

No one's told me they're annoyed with it or given me dirty looks, but clearly once you put an aftermarket exhaust on your car, there's a good chance people will lump you into the same pile as Honda ricers. There's no pleasing everyone. If you like the sound, keep it but know you're probably being judged. Helps to be considerate to others too.

Now Try a 3in exhaust haha. You should take some videos and post some sounds clips, as your set up, will hopefully be my new quieter set up

So here's the deal with why I got the exhaust. I got the exhaust prior to getting OFH and hadn't anticipated getting a header when I originally purchased the exhaust. I had it sitting around so I figured I would throw it on and see what it sounded like. I had read that the perrin 2.5 resonated was almost identical to stock when the rest of the exhaust was stock, so I figured it would be just slightly louder than the stock with OFH. I was just surprised that the volume seemed to jump to be 3-4x louder than with stock cbe. I may end up taking it off, I was just curious as to others experiences with a catless header plus cbe.

Can you distinctly hear the boxer rumble?

Have you tried header only, stock everything else? That's what I'm running right now and it's very mild. If you could only change one piece for the most gains, the header would be it IMO.

Wow, Perrin's 2.5" is 3-4x louder than stock? My P&L 2.5" catback is maybe 25-50% louder, mostly just modifies the tone. Looking forward to OFH install soon too once they ship out

I can definitely hear it. It's a super low burble at low rpm, but it really comes alive at wot.

That's what I had been running for about 4 months. It sounded pretty good in my opinion. That's why I figured that adding a close to stock aftermarket cbe would only slightly boost the noise level. It sounds good for sure, but the jump in noise level was surprising. From what I'm reading it sounds like I may have a leak, although I did torque all bolts to spec and added a new gaskets.
