Working Suspension Demonstration NSFW
Probably NSFW
Yeah, this might belong in off topic BUT it might also belong here. I am guessing the vehicle is not using $700 Ebay dampers. Droop is the word. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXMyZ929lpY#t=234"]Monster Energy: Ballistic BJ Baldwin Recoil 2 - Unleashed in Ensenada, Mexico - YouTube[/ame]

I feel like there was a lot more suspension articulation in the first one...

I met some off-road racers who described the $50K suspension setups on their rigs - so, yeah, probably not the low-priced spread.

Unlimited Baja race vehicles run well into 6 figures to build, some over a million. Many of the teams are small, but very rich and have helicopters and multiple million dollar semi trailers.
They all use the same damper brands, King and Race Runner (which come in many sizes, lengths and spec) and don't really have favorites (brand fan boys) or many brands to choose from or be sponsored by (like road racing or the aftermarket import scene). They all make their own long travel boxed suspension arms (impressive compared to import aftermarket parts), frames, full pillowball vehicle, cages, and all other chassis/engine/suspension support. All those unlimited vehicles are pretty much full tube long travel race cars wrapped in fiberglass. The fabricators and engineers in this type of racing are all very highly skilled.

Don't forget fox, bilstein, and some others too! Bilstein makes a mean off road shock.

I watched a documentary saying the shocks on trophy trucks can reach 400°F. They have temp sensors mounted to them and occasionally have to slow the pace because the shocks are overheating.

Ah yes, of course.
Many times I wish the aftermarket import scene was more like off road racing - emphasis on function only, and only a handful companies making parts that truly work. ...instead of the 1000s and 1000s of brands and products (like coilovers lol) in the import scene, where consumers get lost in and most sift through the garbage and research for weeks just to find the good parts.

I guess many import aftermarket companies, have a tendency to easily gravitate towards marketing and money (not all of course..you gotta do a lot of research to find the actual good stuff/parts/companies).
Whereas, off road racing, gravitates straight up on racing and making great parts that work.

Off road is all about function.
Even on our Jeepspeed race truck which is just a modded Cherokee overheats the shocks on a long race. |

Unquestionably.
Almost everything is cheap if you'll only take the time to locate the really expensive stuff. I'm available to deliver short courses in the subject for anyone who needs help with this; I can even refer interventionists if you charge too far down that path with your wallet held open!
