Fake RAYS Wheels Made in SoCal (Los Angeles)

So I saw a Scion xB at the gas station the other weekend. The girl who was driving it had some 'TE37's on it. I know those cars are 5x100 because a buddy of mine has one.

I've always liked the TE and before I bought my set I knew the sizes available in 5x100 are shitty at best. Hers looked to be 15" or 16" and didn't look like the typical sizes available. I asked her about them and this is what I found out:

There is a shop in the LA area that has a cast of the TE37...and I mean an EXACT cast that has all the raised lettering between spokes. Her wheels were basically a copy but were made in a bolt pattern that fit her xB. That means that these wheels are the sizes we all want from Rays (in 5x100) but aren't offered from Japan. It would be like someone taking one of my TE37RTs, using it to make a cast, and then drilling out the wheels to be whatever bolt pattern the customer wants.

I've seen some shit on other forums where the bolt pattern on the wheel doesn't match what the seller says it is...like Rays, Work, and SSR are always fucking up the bolt pattern that's on the inner hub of the wheel

EDIT:

Talked to Mackin Industries...on certain Volk models they WILL put the opposite bolt pattern. Because Japan.

Regardless, weigh your wheels if it's possible. Your 17" TE's should weigh as much as 18" XD9s, you know?

Good luck.

Dude I know what you mean but there's a difference between Rota Grids with Volk stickers and the things I saw on that xB.

It's like the copies went Super Saiyan.

Sometimes the bolt pattern doesn't match, because they use an existing face to make a custom wheel. Here's an example of a 17x10 +44 5x114 CE28N that says 5x100. The face is from an older 17x7 5x100 STI fitment wheel, but the barrel redesigned and offset changed to accommodate a S2000 with a BBK.

Notice the flat face, versus the usual 17x10 +45 which has a concave face.

17x10 +44 You can see where it says 5x100, when the car is clearly not 5x100

17x10 +45

Plus those wheels 17x10 would be an odd size to copy

Any wheel can be made in any bolt pattern as long as the MOQ is met. There isn't any requirement to change the casting, and often times the cast will say 5x100 (when it's a 5x114.3) or vice versa.

All the bolt pattern casting is good for, is to say what bolt pattern supports what vehicle weight. This is a Japanese VIA requirement.

Regarding the bolt pattern thing: Understood. I thought the CEs were (for some reason) the only model that had that done. I've had numerous sets of Work wheels, Gram Lights, and so on but I've never seen this.

The point of this post is to (hopefully) have over-zealous buyers see this and be sure to check and weigh their new prospect wheels to confirm that they are what the seller says they are.

I'm not new to this car thing and I'm definitely not green when it comes to scammers and fake wheels. The reason I posted this is because the overall quality of these replicas was fucking nuts...not some Varrstoens or Rota Grids with TE decals.

@Dave-ROR ...thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna send a shitty Yelp review their way hah.
